If you can tolerate that dose, it's okay. If your dose of magnesium is too high, your colon will let you know.

Its hard to say. Sometimes supra-theraputic doses seem to help. Magnesium is a moderate NMDA antagonist and higher doses may provide a more complete antagonism of glutamate. Supposedly magnesium threonate gets absorbed better into the brain. I don't know whether this is true. Personally, I wouldn't take more than 100mg on a regular basis. Although this is not based on any research really. It theoretically could be hard on your kidneys. You can try getting more from food (probably a bit easier on your system). I pick up a healthier bread which has 20% magnesium per slice. Check the back of the bread you buy. The crap bread barely has any. Get the best type of magnesium (i.e. citrate, fumarate, maleate, or bi-glycinate) these forms are better absorbed than oxide.

Using other supplements to help support anxiety may lower the necessary dose of magnesium. Reducing inflammation will probably help your brain retain more.

Yeah, I think inflammation is a problem in my brain. Im am going 10g EPA/DHA and I get good benefits. It is important to keep in mind is that you need A: Vitamin K to prevent excessive bleeding and B: Vitamin E to keep EPA/DHA from oxidizing.

I also react well to antioxidants, most notably a bunch of (wild) blueberries. 150g every morning.

The psychiatrist is not the only way to go! A good general practicioner can go a long way as well.
