Any new supplements for OCD?

Posted by Mogger on January 30, 2018, at 14:28:53

I am stumped as I feel like I have tried every supplement to augment my treatment for ocd. Probiotics, herbs minerals etc I have tried so many. CBD oil is powerful but I feel it is starting to interact with my meds metabolization. The supplements I am on are below. Any feedback I would so appreciate:

18 grams of inositol
2400 mg NAC (might go higher?)
4 grams EPA fish oil
3000 ius Vitamin D (any more and I get anxiety)

Supplements I have tried for OCD:

Bimuno Prebiotics
Magnesium
Scullcap
Valerian
Lemon Balm
Liposomal Vitamin C
Some probiotics
Oregano oil
Selenium
Zinc
Vitamin K2
Light therapy
Kava Kava
Etc..

hi. i have "obsessive traits," and doing orthomolecular has helped. the big thing, I think, is the 6 grams of niacinamide. the orthomolecular people say to take at least as much vitamin c as b3 (whatever form). I take 20 grams time release C per day.

maybe taurine, at a high dose? there's limited data on using 4 grams/taurine w/ ongoing tranquilizers for severe mental problems (seems to help). w/ the actions at gaba and such, it seems like it might help.

l-theanine? i take the Suntheanine version now and then. when I take it, I go for about 600mgs on an empty stomach, and it helps me simmer down for a while.

hope this helps.

Have you tried P5P? This is from digitalnaturopath:

A study found plasma pyridoxal-5-phosphate (active vitamin B6) levels were about 48% lower in depressed patients than in controls, a statistically significant finding. 57% of depressed patients, but none of the controls, were B6-deficient. When B6 nutriture was evaluated by enzyme stimulation testing (a more sensitive method), all the depressed patients and none of the controls were deficient. [Russ CS et al. Vitamin B6 status of depressed and obsessive-compulsive patients. Nutr Rep Int 27( 4): pp.867-73, 1983]

Thank you for your response. I have tried niacinamide and it had an initial benefit but then went flat. What brand of vitamin c do you take and how do you think it helps? Thank you again,

Mogger

hi. i just take plain ole vitacost brand time relase. each tablet has 1 gram vitamin c plus some other stuff. i take 10 in the AM and 10 again the PM.

I think Orthomolecular helps me get more mileage out of the psych drugs, and I'm down to 2 psych drugs per day, which is good for my set of problems.

Orthomolecular for the mentally ill dates back to the 50s. Back then, it was Mega-Vitamin Therapy for The Schizophrenias (note the plural).

high dose c, b-complex, b3, e, usually zinc, selenium, fish oil, now and then beta carotene, plus (these days...) carefully selected and dosed pharmaceuticals. back in the day, especially in the very early days of Dr.Abaram Hoffer's work, it was common to use the vitamins+shock, or vitamins+shock+tranquilizers, in more severe cases.

Linus Pauling coined the term Orthomolecular. Pauling, of course, was all about vitamin C, mostly for prevention of cancer and heart problems. I think his daily dosage was 18 grams.
