Any supplements for depression/anxiety besides?...

Posted by mogger on July 10, 2017, at 11:55:47

I am tirelessly trying to augment my medications with supplements but have tried a lot. I currently take

NAC
Fish oil (pure EPA)
Inositol
Vitamin D
Vitamin K2

I do have benefits from them all but not enough to where I am satisfied. Thanks for your thoughts.

BTW I have tried B6, Niacin, Lysine, Glycine, Sarcosine, Agmatine and many others.

What medication are you currently taking and at what dosage?

Have you tried carnitine?

Magnesium taurinate or magnesium glycinate? I don't know which would be better. You could research both of them. Magnesium oxide is worthless.

I've been getting decent results the last few months with NMN (nicotinamide mononucleotide). This is the article that led me to try NMN:

This is the brand I use:

Why wouldn't someone want to take NAD+?

Does NMN get into the cells more efficiently than NAD+? I can't tell if there is a difference between them. I see that NADH is wasted when taken orally. Is the same true of NAD+ when compared to NMN?

I would love to have longer telomeres!

If you're asking about niacin contraindications, one I know of is hypotension.

I prefer NMN (nicotinamide mononucleotide) to NAD+ (nicotinamide riboside). I wouldn't say that NADH is wasted when taken orally. This helped me a lot for two weeks, and then my brain became habituated to it. So far, habituation hasn't been a problem with NMN, and I've been taking it for over three months.

are you saying that nicotinamide mononucleotide helps for anxiety or for antiageing?

And depression for me.

However it reactivated herpes simplex.

I had never come across anything so useful.

I am a big fan of kava-kava, which is gradually coming back into favour and reappearing in Health Supplement stores and pharmacies. New research shows it includes among its 18 active ingredients both anxiolytics (similar in effect to benzos, but non-addictive) anti-depressants (both D/NRI & MAOI-B) and stimulants, all rolled into one! Amazing but true. If anyone is old enough to remember Flanders & Swann, it is almost like their Wompom plant! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ivf4w3r-_3c

My experience with it is initially mood elevating and activating, a bit like Ritalin or Adderall, but nicer - less "edgy". Then over several hours it gradually becomes more relaxing, especially in high doses (2.5 gm of 30% grade), and may eventually make you pleasantly sleepy.

I intend to post more soon here, as the quality/grade, dose, and how you prepare it make a big difference to its effectiveness. Briefly, look for "guaranteed 30% kavalactones)" or similar, and don't swallow the capsules: empty them into hot chocolate mix, add hot water, & stir/whisk. More later.

I would like to try Kava Kava but am worried about drug interactions. Do you feel it is relatively clean with your other meds? Does NMD cause anxiety?

> I would like to try Kava Kava but am worried about drug interactions. Do you feel it is relatively clean with your other meds? Does NMD cause anxiety?

I can find no official notice of significant drug interactions, and I have not experienced any problems myself with a variety of antidepressants, cold/allergy remedies, and some anxiolytics & muscle relaxants. However,

1) It may have an additive effect with any of the above. Start slowly.

2) Scott pointed out in another thread that if Kava has MAOI-B activity (as stated by Wikipedia), high doses can have the same problems as any MAOI, especially problems with aged cheese, sausage etc., and certain medications, notably other MAOIs, stimulants, decongestants and the cough suppressant DM aka DXM. As I say, I haven't experienced any symptoms that would suggest this is a major concern, and I do spot-check my blood-pressure from time to time. You could check your medications with an online tool such as rx.com or drugs.com by adding selegeline to your list -- it's a mild MAOI-B.

I'm not sure what NMD is -- a niacin derivative?
