Benefit from GABA

Posted by linkadge on December 30, 2016, at 7:13:49

I have tried picamilon, phenebut and plain gaba.

I have to say that gaba (for me at least) does have a distinct effect. I know it's 'not supposed' to cross the blood brain barrier, but I got a distinct and noticeable effect from 500mg of gaba.

How did it help exactly? Mood lifting, or less anxiety?

Also, did it make you drowsy?

I just brought some 5 HTP and then read it may cause a condition called Eosinophiliamyalgia syndrome (EMS) and got scared off, lol

So I'm looking for other supplements for immediate mood lift/anti anxiety properties.

I don't think there is any risk of EMS from 5-htp. EMS was associated with some bad batches of (a related substance) tryptophan back in the 90's. Tryptophan is back on the market (at least in Canada) as an alternative.

The only thing I would watch is the combination of 5-htp with an SSRI can cause a potentially life threatening condition called serotonin syndrome. Basically this is caused by excessive serotonin neurotransmission throughout the body.

I have used 5-htp with SSRIs but only very small amounts of 5-htp. 5-htp alone is perfectly safe to use.

Gaba has been helping my anxiety and mood.
