Exercise + depression

Posted by Jimmyboy on September 22, 2007, at 10:19:57

I have bipolar depression and I was wondering the minimum amount of cardio exercise I could get to still have a positive impact on my mood..

Also if exercise is helpful, how long would it take to notice a difference?

Studies I've read show effect after two weeks from exercising 3-4 times every week.

Hi,
I find cycling trips 2-4 times a week of aprox. 2 hrs duration each session to be of marked benefit to my general health, incl. mental. Also a diet that cuts out all "modern" processed foods ( in other words a Paleo Diet) The above really helps with mild to moderate depression. It takes will power and a few weeks to really see results though.

Valero, paleo diet is nice. I've found it superior to any other diet. You avoid too many carbs without suffering from ketosis or bloating.

Two weeks ago, I started exercising on stationary cardio equipment at my local gym, around 4 times a week for 20-35 minutes, depending on how busy the day is.

I already notice huge improvements in mood and less anxiety.

Also, I like doing it in the morning as it wakes me up and gets the blood flowing.
