Magnesium

Posted by oeps7 on November 4, 2003, at 13:33:01

I just started taking magnesium and folic acid yesterday - I notice a difference in that it seems to really help with my anxiety.
Met with my pdoc today explained to him I am feeling really good - this is only my second meeting with him. Told him I am taking fish oil also. He is very skeptical that this works. He had wanted me to go from 50 -150 mg of zoloft and I didn't. Seems like some pdocs have such a bad attitude about anything alternative. He says there are no scientific studies on fish oil. That is bunk - I told him if you go to pubmed on the web there are several.

That's great! Fantastic news. One of the things magnesium does is make your GABA receptors more sensitive to calming signals. You may find that niacinamide (the amide of niacin, not the same thing as niacin) helps even more.

If they spent as much time looking at diet as they do at drugs, we wouldn't use so many drugs. Diet offers the chance to repair the machinery; drugs are like duct tape.

What really matters is that you have done the experiment on yourself, and you see the benefit. What is totally empowering is that you don't need anybody's permission (like a doctor filling out a prescription) to manage your diet and supplements.

I think duct tape is better than drugs. Drugs are more like very cheap (cheap = poor quality) band-aids.
