For all-out censorship. The thread done disappeared. But the sentiments remain, every single one expressed.

As I had warned in the past, it's a slippery slope. And moderation has seemed to slip the entire way.

Has anyone been blocked because of this? If this gets through, I haven't :P...

Personally, I think Dr. Bob is either looking at this board very carefully, in order to observe and possibly document what happens when a board such as this is abandoned, or alternatively, he just doesn't care at all anymore. If I were him, I would never simply abandon this board without closing it. I'm not sure about the laws in the US, and I'm not even exactly sure about the laws in my jurisdiction, but I would be too scared that something bad is going to happen for which I might be held responsible. Think of someone leaving a suicide note and then proceeding to actually do it. Could he be liable? If I were him, I would not even want to take that risk. So my first option seems more likely to me.

But by the way, this is not the first time that posts have been deleted, even outside of posts by blocked members. About two or three months ago there was a thread opened on 'Medication' by what seems to have been a former poster, who basically just trashed Scott in an incredibly offensive manner. I saw the thread in the evening, and it was gone the next morning. So *someone* must be doing *something* behind the scenes.

As I have said on other occasions, it's sad to see a board with such high potential in its members just sit there and slowly disintegrate, but what can you do.

The only time I've seen a thread deleted has been when a blocked poster has evaded the block (by using a false name) to participate in the block.
I didn't see any such thing going on, and no indications of anyone being blocked, such as, er, myself.

It would be a shame if someone's upset caused multiple posts and entire threads to be "poof"ed. No room for discussion of any kind left - Tabitha's health concerns, AMD's substance recovery, and our varied and real concerns about healthcare in the US.

I guess this is not the place for such place - not support, nor answers.

Perhaps it is time not for applause but instead a funeral dirge.

perhaps conclusions are being jumped to...

I can imagine two possible explnations:

1. There was a blocked poster posting in the thread using another name. I have no idea who might be currently blocked. In those cases, the policy was to delete the whole thread, if I remember correctly. Unfortunate collateral damage, I always thought, but Dr. Bob's take was that the others posts often made no sense if just the blocked poster's posts were deleted.

2. And I personally think this is more likely.....there was a technical glitch during the process of moving threads. I can imagine moving the healthcare one to Politics and others perhaps to Social, etc. It is a several-step process. If the software malfunctions, you get interrupted for long enough, or say your computer freezes up mid-process, bad things happen. Or, perhaps Racer (if she is still volunteering as a deputy) or even Dr. Bob made a mistake. It is possible to get distracted and click the wrong radio button and then you might inadvertently delete when you meant to move.

I have no idea. It is odd and not the usual steps for moving where we would see a redirection post from Admin. But these people are human and fallible and they might not realize what's happened or be trying to repair it now.

I also firmly subscribe to the principle of Ockham's Razor. It's saved me so many times from assumptions and succumbing to [more] complex conspiracy theories.

I was expecting to find it on Politics too, once it had disappeared from the Main Board.

Just for the record, my "theories" weren't related to this particular incident, but to the whole going-from-hyperstrict-moderation-to-no-moderation-at-all thing. Intentional deletion of the political thread in 'medication' would have fit my hypotheses, but the new information about what actually happened didn't kill them. They are still alive and well ;-)...

I clicked on posts from the in question thread and it popped up so what board is it on? As before was on none? Is this some board I'm unaware of like invisible board without a name? Just kidding but not really. Phillipa

Why, you might even call his explanation

Psycho Babble

as in - it doesn't really explain anything and the posts are where? Do we have a Health board again?
I once called the Doctor "obtuse" to which he took offense. It wasn't meant to be taken that way... he's not someone I can (or, at this point, care to) figure out. As my T pointed out to me, there are far too many pdocs in practice for all the wrong reasons.

The posts are where they always were. The main screen that you use to those posts is just a list of them that tells your browser where on the server those posts are (the address). Part of the list is missing so if your browser doesn't already know how to get there you can't see them. But they are still there.**

It's sort of like if google went down you couldn't find websites unless you already knew what address to type in. But all the sites would still be there.

**For us older folks - think card catalogue with a handful of cards removed. The books are still on the shelves. (remember card catalogues)

I do remember them. did I mention I don't have a smart phone as they outsmarted me? So they are there but can't be seen like ghosts in the house. I wouldn't attempt to figure out Bob. I wonder if he lives in babbleland? Of course nothing I wrote can be seen either. It just doesn't exist. So no need to attempt to figure it out it just is I think but don't know but then who does know? Phillipa

> As my T pointed out to me, there are far too many pdocs in practice for all the wrong reasons.

This is sadly true. Damaging a psyche through mistreatment can be as debilitating as damaging a pair of kidneys.

As for Dr. Hsiung, I don't know what are his reasons for practicing medicine - or if he even practices. I certainly don't know what are his reasons for providing Psycho-Babble to the world are. It seems to me to be a thankless job at this point. I, for one, appreciate his efforts and personal investments made towards the maintenance of this online community for the past 15 years.

I, for one, benefited a great deal from learning new interpersonal communication skills during the PBC days. However, I disliked the methodology employed for enforcing rules of civil discourse. They resulted in what I think were extended posting blocks, the lengths of which were not commensurate with the infraction being sanctioned. Ultimately, this enterprise ignited a frenzy of contentious posting on the Administration board that seemed to be this website's main attraction. I don't have an alternate methodology to offer, however. I really haven't worked on one. Has anyone else? Is there any need for the moderation of this website?

Thank you once again, Robert Hsiung, MD.

You're the one who was suggesting the only explanation was censorship. I'm sorry you felt that my disagreeing with your interpretation was a personal insult.

I don't understand. It seems to me, repeatedly, and by many, that we have unrealistic expectations of dr bob.
What can we reasonably expect?

I run a website and respond to requests within hours. I am not paid to do this and have a 100% customer satisfaction rating. I have no deputies - just an alert that sends me an email when I've received a communication.
I would expect the same kind of response here. Even more so when there is no commerce of any kind taking place. Not unreasonable expectations in any online world * I * know of. This place is so in the dark ages. It was a complete and utter mistake to expect any forward evolution to have occurred while I'd been gone.
Moot point, since I'm gone again. For good this time, thank God.

And f*ck you all. Sincerely, not just you, Sleepygirl.

Friends,
It is written the above. I am unsure as to what is meant here. If you could post answers from your perspective, not to what the author could be thinking, to the followimg, then I could have the opportunity to respond accordingly.
A. Do you also have a loss and if so, what is the loss about?
B. Are you aware of the definition of {reasonable}?
C. Could one that comes to this site have the potential to think that the componants that catagorize a site as a {mental health} site are in place here?
C. Do you think that it is reasonable for there to be outstanding requests from me to Mr. Hsiung that go back days, weeks months and years?
D. Do you see any posts that could result in an indoctrination to the members here concerning how Jews could be perceived here?
E. Do you prescribe to any concept that the administration here does not have to fulfill their functions in a reasonable time period?
F. Have you read any of the posts that I offered in a search in the threads now seen on this board? If so, in your opinion, is this site giving people an idea as to what the administration considers to be supportive?
G. Are you aware that this site is for education and there is a prohibition to me from Mr. Hsiung that prohibits me from posting educational facts concerning a particular time period?

On January 11, 2012, the Israel Knesset passed a series of laws that made it a crime to use all forms of the word "Nazi" or similar sounding words. Do you happen to know if this included their use in educational settings?

I like a good expletive.
I don't mean to dismiss your expectations.
I guess mine are very different.
Maybe I need to remember how hurtful feeling unimportant or ignored can feel. Not that I've ever really forgotten it.
I do wish dr bob was still present. He seems not to be here much. I guess this is no longer the priority that it was. Though so many of us are still invested..
Take care
