My experience has been that any communication can become fodder for the boards.
Privacy is an illusion.

According to the guidelines, I believe you are correct as I believe bmail to be a form of private communication:

"..... disclose without permission information (including previous posting names) that identifies or **private communications from another poster**, ...."

You are both correct. Privacy here is a joke and it is against the rules. hmmmmmmmmmm?

Appropriate conduct can be a bit questionable here too IMO but that's a whole 'nother story : )

I'm sorry about what happened to you...

What happened? On second thought, I might not want to know... but I'm sorry something went wrong for you.

I would presume that if someone tells me something via bmail there's a good chance that they used Babblemail specifically because they did NOT want to post it to a board. And that I should ask if it's OK to post a reference to information in the Babblemail.

I don't think any arcane rules need to be applied in order to agree that this is the civil way to treat someone who sends you a babblemail...

I've made the attempt to contact administration (notify button) twice and have written an email to Bobby. That was yesterday. I've clicked on the notify button once today because once again my name was brought up in a post.

I am having a hard enough time IRL and this isn't helping me.

B-mail is NOT private or 'safe'

Ya, nothing is private here. Very small town. Thats why I stayed away from b-mail. Gives a sense of false security. Best to keep as much as possible on the boards.
And yeah, the drawback to the notify button is more hidden stuff, not always good. Guess nothings perfect.
Same w/bmail. gots pros and cons. Just the cons is kinda badly hurtful.
I think we need to operate on the assumption that nothing is gonna be private re: babble communication. I post on another board, and there is no b-mail type function, and I think its for the best.
Bmail is an ongoing source of problems.
Sorry to those who have been stung, once again , by b-mail.
I think this is not necc. a bad place, just one needs to be cautious.
Best wishes to all (((babblers))). I miss you guys.

For about three years I have posted here in a completely anonymous fashion. I covered my you know what, and only revealed my identity once to Dr Bob in an email that he surely has no recollection of at this point anyway. Lately, however, I have been quite careless and don't really worry about remaining anonymous anymore.

My point is that if you wish to truly remain anonymous here, then you must take responsibility for that yourself and make it happen. You can not expect nor depend on anybody else in the site to protect your privacy. In a perfect world - yes. But as we all know, this is not a perfect world and people do make mistakes. Babblemail is nice for a more initmate setting to chat with someone - but it should be seen as nothing more than that. A private chatroom.

Now - all of this is simply my personal opinion on the matter. Yours may differ and that is fine. But in three years not once have I had to worry about anything I spoke here. Thats because I have always taken personal responsibility for the information I chose to share about myself.

My post concerned the fact that I did indeed try to talk to someone through babblemail and this person revealed what I had said...on the board. That is against the rules and I do not like it when someone violates a rule that is supposed to protect one's privacy.

Incidentally, I could have posted everything else that was said in the babblemail....but I don't run that way. Pat
