The image that looked to me like a man with a gun to his throat was stuck on my computer for a good 10 minutes. No flashes, no gee he didn't mean it. Yeah, I don't watch the news because I trust shrub to lead us honestly and I have more important things to do. I know shrub the awol liar will take good care of us. And 20 years from now I can say I've found great wisdom in the writings of people who were slaughtered while I wasn't watching the news. Vote people! Be informed. Watch the gd news. The world isn't safe and it won't be until we take the time to MAKE IT SAFE. Trust less, think more.

whether or not it was paperwork, **it was meant to look like a weapon**. there was nothing silly about that image! the implied meaning is the same..that picture represented a suicide gesture! i have had enough of your games, dr. bob..i am astounded at your "sillyness"! you seriously need some emotional help...

There have already been at least 3 different interpretations of what was on that image posted here, knives, a gun, a razor - I really don't think there was a purpose behind it. Interesting what people saw in that flash, actually.

Because in this instance, it *wasn't* a gun to his head per Dr. Bob. And per my own and my husband's eyes. Unless you think Dr. Bob is lying? Why would Dr. Bob lie? Why would Dr. Bob put up a picture with a gun to his head? Trusting people who have proved themselves worthy of trust is a very intelligent thing to do. Waiting to find out what people meant rather than assuming you know isn't stupid either.

Trusting and thinking are not mutually exclusive.

And yes, I've said I don't watch the news, but what does that have to do with trusting Dr. Bob? Or, for that matter, with voting for George Bush? Do you assume you know how I'll vote?

Have I distressed you somehow in the past? I don't recall anything offhand, but this post was in answer to mine, I was the one who stated that I trusted Dr. Bob, and I have stated that I don't watch the news. If I'm incorrectly assuming this post directed towards me (which is possible since there was no name attached), I apologize. But if I have inadvertantly offended in some way, perhaps we can work it out.

The theory which is mine. This is my theory. This theory, of which I about to describe, belongs to me. (apologies to Monty Python)

I think it was a test to find out what each of us would see in a "flash card" type of picture, and how it related to our dx's. Or to see who would be a good witness on the stand. One or the other.

I'm going to reply seriously, only because so many people seem to have this lab rat image going with Dr. Bob.

Dr. Bob wouldn't do that. He wouldn't run a Rorschach test on the members of this board. Especially not in such a way as to cause alarm and distress.

Dr. Bob does have a playful side. And he's used the imagery of paperwork in his photos before. I'm guessing he really does feel overwhelmed by paperwork. Perhaps feels way behind. And was sharing that with us playfully. Seems like something I'd do at times at work when I feel stressed out and overwhelmed.

I'm sure he's as distressed as anyone that people were upset by the image. If you do art or photos and you know what was in the picture, you just don't see it the way others who weren't there when you took the photo and didn't see the whole picture, just a bit of it, see it. You know what was in the photo, and you can't see it with fresh eyes. So when someone points out what it looks like you can be completely surprised.

I know that happens with my posts sometimes. I know what I mean when I write them. Then someone gets offended and I go back and look and say oooooh, I can see now how it might be taken that way. But before someone else pointed it out, I could have read it a dozen times and not seen it.

You should see some of the IRL hobby clubs I've belonged to. Online ones too. And my husband's religious organization. He was utterly dumbfounded.

Whenever you get a diverse group of people together, it's usually lively. That was the common denominator, don't you think? The hobby clubs were a diverse group who shared one common interest. The religious organization had the religion in common, but was otherwise a diverse group. We all have mental health concerns in common, but are otherwise a diverse group. People see things differently and that leads to interesting situations. No one is necessarily right or wrong or good or bad. Just different points of view.

That's why I periodically tell my therapist I'm going to withdraw from humanity and go back to books and TV and movies. But diversity can be fascinating too, and it's one of the things I like best about Babble. Even if it does keep my therapist in new shoes.

I'm glad you apologized, Bob. Can I use the defense that I was just being silly? Oh, that would never do. You don't go by intent.

I'm just making a point about how subjective all opinions are, yours included.

I like that theory. The suicide suggestion was made and many like me (probably with similar Dxs) were quick to see it that way. Others saw books or harmless objects.

I'm wondering, is this part of the experiment? (hee, hee) (I'm not actually laughing outloud at this moment but hiding a barely discernable grin while thinking "shrubbery" or "we are the knights who say..."

Please don't jump to conclusions about others or post anything that could lead them to feel accused or put down.

If you or others have questions about this or about posting policies in general, or are interested in alternative ways of expressing yourself, please see the FAQ:

Follow-ups regarding these issues, and replies to the above post, should of course themselves be civil.

In reply to Bob - Horrifying picture animation!!!, posted by TofuEmmy on September 8, 2004, at 13:43:04

Thank God, I didn't see what you all are talking about. If it was flashing, I would consider that a subliminal message.

The picture that I see on the computer screen is the faded one. How shadows interpretes it - There are two sides of Dr. Bob. There is the side he shows to the outside world. He is an intensive analyzer. He enjoys studying things. He likes to observe intensely. Then, there is a whole other side that no one sees. He pretends to the world this side doesn't exist. But, shadowplayers can see there is a shadow self to Dr. Bob that no one will ever see, because he denies this side exists to himself. Therefore, this thing that you describe that happened was no mistake. He sent his message, but only the shadow self know the true intention. The side Dr. Bob portrays is not conscious of the this process.

Look out, Shadowsplayers noneducated psychiatrist is out for the evening..........Who is the doc and who is the patient? Flashing pictures with a cryptic messages that only the shadow self of Dr. Bob really knows was at the control switch. There was no mistake was there shadow self of Dr. Bob? I understand. .. What do books hitting you in the head symbolize to to you? Why did you choose to flash in this method? Did you get the reaction you hoped for? What reaction were you wanting? Is this an emotion that you feel or is it one that you have placed in your shadow self?
