Any medications work for social avoidance?

I don't mean social anxiety per se, but more social avoidance.

I believe there's a subtle difference

Nardil is probably the best drug for that. It is often described as being "pro-social". In addition, since the 1980s, it was considered the best treatment for social anxiety / phobia. It always makes me feel more gregarious.

Hi Scott,

What dose were you on? I tried it about 10 years ago for about a month at 15mg TID and found it had no effect on me socially. Maybe I needed a higher dose.

Adderall (and Dexedrine) help, but I have social anxiety/phobia.

Since 1983, I have been on Nardil perhaps 10 times. I never responded at all at dosages below 60mg/day. The first time I was tried on it, the dosage was 45 mg/day. It didn't seem to help. For me, 75 mg/day is the right dosage. In general, I consider the therapeutic range to be 60-90 mg/day.

It can take as long as 3-4 weeks after a dosage increase to see results. It takes almost 2 weeks just to establish the maximum percentage of MAO inhibition that the dosage is capable of producing.

Most people who respond well to Nardil describe it as being "pro-social". You might find yourself feeling more gregarious and spontaneous.

I find that Nardil does a better job at treating anhedonia than Parnate. Very early in treatment, Nardil makes me feel spacey and foggy-headed. Feeling weird in the beginning is a good sign for me.

Hi Scott, Thanks for your reply. Sounds like Nardil works at least to some extent for you since you've been on it so much. If I may ask, what has prompted you to stop taking it in the past?

Regards
