I just want to sleep on wellbutrin

Posted by linkadge on August 27, 2022, at 10:23:34

I don't find it stimulating at all. I found effexor much more stimulating. All this is doing is giving me heart palpations.

Me neither, and I think I tried 900 mg once, or in any case more than recommended. I see it as a "Ritalin Lite" (and I don't experience Ritalin stimulating enough either).

> I found effexor much more stimulating.

Me sertraline, but it was a poor form of stimulation that mostly translated to insomnia. But paroxetine, my first antidepressant, made me sleep *a lot*, possibly because of anticholinergic effects but quite as possibly due to my being in a different mental/neurochemical condition back then (in the early 2000s).

Have you tried combining that (dark chocolate) with one (or more) of those herbal MAO-B inhibitors? This should give a better effect than either alone, at least if phenylethylamine (PEA) is involved.

For most of the the summer, I was taking PEA (supplement - very low doses ~5-10mg) cocoa and amur corktree bark (purportedly one of the most potent herbal MAO-B inhibitors).

It did improve depression, but it also seemed to induce some circadian rhythm problems. There were also some problems with hypersexuality (up to 4 times a day). Also, I got addicted to exercise. It was fun, but hard to control. Perhaps with a bit of seroquel on board, it would have been manageable.

From what I read too, there are different 'sites' on the dopamine transporter. Cocaine, ritalin, amfolinic acid etc bind to one site, yet other drugs like bupropion, modafinil, benztropine etc. bind to another site. It is thought that the secondary site may produce less euphoria and abuse potential.

Day 4 - darker mood - palpations

Day 4 of 150mg of bupropion. So far my mood is darker and I'm getting heart palpitations. Not a great start ... not too much hope here.

Doesn't sound great. Wellbutrin gave me a 'body high'. Pumping heart, clarity. Excellent for my undiagnosed at the time ADHD. But it's definitely not for everyone. In my experience, it felt like Ritalin, something my genetic test said I don't metabolize well.

Might you go back to Effexor? And are you thinking of pristiq?

Wellbutrin consistently makes my depression worse. It becomes grayer and a little more slowed-down. I never had any autonomic side-effects, though.

I think it's the right decision that you persist a bit longer. However, I have never had a drug make my depression significantly worse, and then go on to produce an antidepressant response.

I have no suggestion as to how long you should continue treatment with Wellbutrin if you continue to feel worse. My gut feeling is that if the worsening does not resolve after 7-10 days, it doesn't make sense for you continue with it. I am usually reluctant to suggest that someone stop taking a medication on day (n), just in case they would have felt great on day (n+1).

Can you get some propranolol?? That will def stop/reduce the palpitations. Also...go to the drug store and buy some good dextromethorphan cough syrup. It acts as a good NMDA antagonist, and has smooth serotonin properties. (Not like SSRI's). Seriously!! Similar to the new drug Axsome.

I got psychosis too after sleep deprivation (accumulated sleep deficit), which was secondary to stimulants (though it wasn't Wellbutrin but desoxypipradrol, which is much like a long-acting version of Ritalin). It was a full-blown psychosis resembling paranoid schizophrenia, though my most severe auditory hallucinations were perhaps unusual in that they consisted of screams.

My heart is already pumping :)

I can't say that this feels like ritalin. Ritalin had more of a clear, straightforward effect. This is definitely more psychoactive. For example, I'm getting some visual distortions. For example road signs with arrows started to look bizarre and otherworldly.

Yes. I completely agree with this. For example, it makes colours noticeably duller. It seems to have an effect on time perception. Whenever I listen to music, it seems to be going at about half of the tempo I remember. Strange.

I have never experienced psychosis. Sometimes, however, I wish that the FBI was after me. Then, at least, my life would have some meaning. Of course I am kidding.

I have experienced psychotomemetic effects from weed. There were no overt hallucinations, but stuff like toasters smiling at me. It only lasted an hour or so.

I'm only taking 1/4 of a 150mg bupropion. I never start at the prescribed dose of any med. If I could tolerate 1/4, I might move up to 1/2.

Pramipexole did the opposite for me. Colours were more vivid and music sounded wonderful. I wonder why's that if both are pro-dopaminergic substances.

Yeah, that is very interesting. Another conundrum is the fact the pramipexole is linked to compulsive disorders, whereas bupropion can be used to reduce addictive behaviours (smoking, gambling etc).

I wonder if there is a link between the two. Seriously, casinos use bright vivid shiny colors to increase gambling. Perhaps pramipexole activates certain pathways that intensify this reward related anticipation (and accompanying perceptual intensification related reward). Conversely, bupropion (somehow) blocks these pathways, and hence reduces addictive behaviours.

Bupropion is linked to a lower rate of mania induction than other antidepressants. This doesn't really jibe with its on-paper targets. There must be other things going on with this med.
