How do you increase male libido? DHEA?

Posted by SLS on August 7, 2022, at 12:06:44

My sex drive has decreased significantly over the last few years. My blood level of testosterone is barely above the minimum of the reference range.

DHEA is supposed to increase testosterone. However, its effect to increase sex drive is greater for females than for males. Females require only a small amount of testosterone to establish a robust sex drive. It seems that adding DHEA demonstrates a strong effect to increase female sex-drive. For males, however, the amount of extra testosterone necessary to increase sex-drive is probably much higher.

Have any males experienced a large improvement in sex-drive from adding DHEA? What dosage?

What other interventions do you think are effective to improve male sex-drive?

Thanks.

Zinc can help sometimes.

Stinging Nettle (Urtica dioica) Root is an herb that is often recommended for BPH symptoms. It can also raise testosterone by inhibiting SHBG. The leaves don't have the same properties - just the root.

Beyond that I'm not sure. I know you take Nardil which can complicate things (but maybe not interest as much).

.
Thanks for your reply.

In the past, I don't remember Nardil reducing my sex drive, but I can't be sure. I had been taking lithium and Crestor (rosuvastatin). Both drugs are reported to reduce sex drive and testosterone levels. Crestor definitely reduces my sex drive, but not so much that it is worth risking my cardiovascular health. Lithium didn't seem to make much difference. However, when I discontinued it for a few days, I relapsed into severe depression. I don't like the idea of taking testosterone, but I don't think it would represent any risk. Testicular atrophy isn't a major concern of mine at age 62.

Hi Scott:

Does the nortriptyline not help?I'd honestly say...don't go with the dhea. It can have extreme nasty side effects, and didn't even do anything for me when I was 25! Just caused panic attacks.

There is an amino acid, L-citrulline, that doesn't quite increase testosterone, but greatly increases male sex drive. Just make sure there are no MAOI interactions. Check it out on Pubmed.

I am in the same boat as you...cheers! :) Lol...

Jay

Excellent suggestion!

Yeah, but I shouldn't have these problems at age 26.

Oops. I mean 62.

How much fat do you eat? It should be at least 0.8 g/kg of body weight. I was able to boost my T levels. No trans fat though. Some saturated fat as well. I mix plant and animal based fats. Algae Oil, Olive Oil and Butter mostly.

As for herbal boosters: I google it alot and there usually is a caveat.

This is basic bodybuilding knowledge. It moved me from low levels to medium. You could also pick up some basic barbell lifts. It boosts T levels.
