lithium question

Posted by rjlockhart37 on May 14, 2022, at 23:56:56

i've been reading about lithium, and it's antidepressant effects, but also read about lithium toxicity, and they said even at theraputic doses you can have lithium toxicity. So, if i took 1 300mg capsule, my doctor was saying a while back, she would start me on 300mg in morning, and 300mg at night, would I have any signs of toxicity at 600mg?

If you have no bipolarity, I would start at 300 mg/day. Kidney and thyroid adverse effects are both dosage-dependent. At 300 mg/day, the risk is close to zero.

300 mg/day is magic for me in treating my bipolar depression. However, low-dosage studies have shown that it is equally effective for unipolar depression. When I increase the dosage to 450 mg/day, everything falls apart, and I relapse. I believe this bimodal dossage-response curve involves glutamate.

I strongly recommend that you start at 300 mg/day for two weeks. If nothing happens, 450 mg/day would be your next move.
