Alternative anxiety treatments?

Posted by Lamdage22 on January 25, 2022, at 12:57:25

So the liposomal GABA seems to have less of an effect on me than a couple of weeks ago. I dont want to increase the dose.

What can I try? Out of the box - no problem. As long as it is safe.

Well... I needed to dig into things much deeper to acutally feel able to do those things. I have tried. My therapist teaches me self acceptance. To my mind, self acceptance is needed to be able to tolerate anxiety and do something anyway. To put yourself out there even though you may be perceived as a weirdo. Some people can't swallow if they are perceived as such. I have learned to live with it.

It is still good information and I am sure CBT works for many people, if those studies have been legitimate.

Someone recommended gotu kola I think and something else. I don't remember and I can't find it with the search option.

He teaches by showing me that I am acceptable. Not by teaching me what to think. Am I unfair with CBT? Maybe.

I think self-confidence is a factor that yields courage and determination. I don't know about self-acceptance, but first accepting yourself as you are would seem to be a starting point for being able to change yourself.

I think the therapist in that video was ACT-oriented (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy), which is not exactly CBT, but one of its derivatives. However, exposure-therapy for anxiety and phobias is a classic approach that predates CBT.

My problem with the behavioural approach is the idea of changing behaviour and hoping the psyche will follow. I find that backwards. Change the psyche and the behaviour will change accordingly.

The cola in Coca-Cola refers to kola nut, a source of caffeine. Does gotu kola have any active ingredient(s)?

Papaver somniferum.

Seriously! It helps (much better than benzos), but yeah, it's not without problems.

Haha the scientific name sounds so innocent.

SSP (Safe and Sound Protocol) is auricular vagal nerve stimulation. The goal of this therapy is to make people feel safe. SSP is used to treat anxiety, depression, PTSD, ADHD, autism, insomnia, inflammatory conditions, chronic pain, autoimmune disorders, by improving the functioning of the vagus nerve. After meeting with an SSP provider, the rest of this therapy can be done at home.

Headphones are used to listen to specially filtered music. The frequencies in the music stimulate "the inner ear, which affects a prominent cranial nerve [the vagus nerve] that runs throughout the brain, impacting your auditory, facial, respiratory, cardiac, and digestive systems. This cranial nerve is implicated in many physiological functions." SSP was developed by Stephen Porges, a professor at Indiana University and at the University of North Carolina.

SSP patients listen to five hours of filtered music. Some people listen to one hour a day for five consecutive days. Others prefer doing it for 30 minutes a day or 15 minutes a day.

There are SSP therapists in over 50 countries. Germany has about 20 SSP therapists. To find one near you, submit this form. You'll be emailed a provider map and a password to access it.

You might not even have to meet in person with a therapist. Some SSP therapists do the initial intake and follow-up over the phone or on Zoom, and email an audio file to download.

You're welcome. There's growing interest in auricular vagal nerve stimulation, as evidenced by these clinical trials:

I will be doing the Safe and Sound Protocol next week.

Okay. They say that you may continue to notice improvements for a couple months after treatment.
