Very weird experience...ALL..Dr.Bob..

Posted by jay2112 on July 13, 2021, at 21:09:43

Last night, I did a search on Psychobabble for most of my old posts. (I used to be just "Jay"..but I lost my password.) Anyhow, I looked at my posts from 2000. Wow...21 years ago!! I was just 30! But, that is when Babble was packed with posters. And, I found my old posts to be VERY different to what I would ask/say now. I am 51, so yeah, I'd hope there would be a change for the better!

I was, back then, completely obsessed with politics and social issues. I still care about those things, but back then...wow!! I would argue about anything and everything. That was when there were tons of blocks, and I found myself in Babble 'jail' often, for blasting my (slanted) opinion on everything and everything! (No offence, Bob!..lol..I deserved it!)

But, I also found a ton of empathetic support, especially from some very traumatic experiences. Like, when my late Dad had a quadruple bypass, and other heavy family and personal issues. And these days, the Babble board is much quieter (probably because of the massive rise of social media), but everyone is still deeply supportive. Babble is still a very unique, and very nice experience...IMHO. But, man, aging really gives a very deep perspective. As well, I have mellowed out SOOO much...aging is also a gift, I think. I am sure many of you would agree. A bit sad, because you have more years behind you than ahead, but that is life, right!

And, I have a much different response to the same meds I took 21 years ago. I have to take much, much smaller doses...and am very sensitive to meds now. That must be an aging body. Fortunately, I am also a bit more stable.

Thanks Dr.Bob, AND all posters past and present. You all have, and still do, taught me some VERY good lessons. I hope this place is still going to be around in another 20 years...it still is a great learning experience!

Oh, and for good or bad (lol), I ain't going anywhere!

Merci beaucoup..and Meegwetch! (I am part Native Cree..and that last word means 'Deeply Thank You', in Cree.)

Jay

I've been lurking here since that time and what is striking is treatments have not gotten any better, really.

It really does seem like there's been not much progress in psychiatry in 20 years. I could be wrong.

I've read that psychiatry is the only field of medicine where outcomes are not getting better.

Do they want treatments to get better? People are forced to take them anyway. The less effective they are the more they will do polypharmacy. It doesn't matter if they are in and out of hospital for most of their lives, they always take meds regardless of outcome.

I may have a very pessimistic view here.

The sicker the patient, the more Drs get paid.
