Can alcohol stop antidepressants working?

Posted by rovers95 on July 30, 2019, at 9:38:30

I have been improving on 75mg amitriptyline alongside lithium for the last 2 1/2 weeks. I was convinced the only way was forward for me.

Saturday night I had a lot to drink, Sunday I had a couple more. Monday I started having a lot of anxiety and panic. Today I don't feel great at all and my sleep wasn't good.

Hoping this is alcohol induced and not me going backwards again?

Anything more than a couple of standard drinks is bad for sleep.

I can't tolerate alcohol anymore either. Last time I went completely paranoid. Its no good and there is a very fine line between using and abusing alcohol.

i've noticed moderate amount of alcohol will cause depression after the roar stimulation period is over, you know when you start drinking you get a buzz and it's kinda fun, but then sedation period and that's when u get depressed. But it messes with your nuerotransmitters. I thihnk it's like a hangover effect, but not just a hangover from yesturdsay but longer period

Yeah I think the sleep quality is much worse Sigi. And insomnia can happen when alcohol levels start dropping.

It interesting / scary thing is that (at least in animal models) antidepressants actually increase alcohol consumption.

Yep, I need a LOT more booze to feel anything than when not on meds. I'm on many meds but the biggest culprits appear to be Wellbutrin, Fetzima and Abilify to me.
