Medical Marijuanna Update

Posted by linkadge on June 26, 2018, at 18:47:41

I am still doing well on medical marijuana for depression / anxiety / insomnia. I have a CBD oil, a THC oil and high CBD dry herb.

In terms of effect, vaporizing the (high CBD, low THC) herb is the most potent. The CBD oil works, but doesn't seem as potent (not sure how much is being absorbed).

The CBD has a strong effect on anxiety, and moderate effect on depression. I still take 300mg of lithium, but it does not fully control my symptoms. Overall the cannabis is acting more like a mood stabilizer than anything else.

I have not had any psychotic like effects at all.

The dosing is hard to determine (because of the vaporizer).

lithium 300mg
CBD 20mg oral
Vape 0.1g of 13% CBD, 0.5% THC herb daily
1-2mg of THC oil daily

Anhedonia is gone, anxiety is gone, insomnia is gone (most nights), racing mind is gone, GI problems are gone.

For all intents and purposes, I am well. Ideally, I'd like to take an oral CBD pill (covered by insurance), but such doesn't exist, and I have no insurance.

Hi SLS,

My understanding is that this is a pharmaceutical grade CBD oil. I have been ordering medical grade CBD oil from a licenced producer.

At this time, the cost is still high ($0.10 / mg) out of pocket. For even a 20-30 mg daily dose, you're talking $2-3 a day.

If a generic synthetic product were available, this could bring the cost down significantly.

Good to hear you're doing well :-)

This doesn't pertain to your situation, but it's an indication of the direction we're (US & Canada) moving with medical marihuana.

Hey Beckett,

Canada has formally announced a legalization date (Oct 13, I believe). Each province is setting in place the infrastructure for distribution.
I saw that article (regarding the first approved CBD based drug). With my medical approval, I can purchase CBD oil, which (for all intents and purposes) is the same.

Cost is still prohibitive for many oils. I am vaping a high CBD low THC product (as it provides better value), however, ideally, I'd like to be able to take a CBD pill (with better absorption). Some companies are looking to combine CBD with long chain fatty acids, for better oral absorption.

I was just reading a practitioner's clinical notes on treating lyme patients.
She had various herbal teas for different things. Each tea was sort of like a cocktail of 6-12 herbs.
One of those cocktails was for depression and nerve repair and neurological - its 3rd main ingredient is cannabis.
Cannabis was in one of the other teas also.
Anyway, I think there is a ton of potential with the marijuana plant in terms of treating psychiatric disorders. The trick is to identify the correct strain for the patient and the correct dosing method.
The clinical studies thus far suggest that marijuana gives people psychosis or depression. And that is misleading. Because that only happens in 15% of the population, or from over-dosing. Even the people that get psychiatric side effects at normal doses, can get good effects at lower doses, or good effects with continued usage - for example when someone starts a ssri there can be all sorts of bad psychiatric side effects of anxiety, worsened depression, insomnia, etc...but it all smooths out with time - same thing with marijuana.

I agree.

Street cannabis (potentially higher THC and possibly tainted with other drugs) likely produces a higher incidence of psychosis than does more natural strains.

Stimulants (used frequently for ADHD and the like) can also easily precipitate psychosis in vulnerable individuals. This never stopped the doctors from prescribing.

Hi linkage, I'm retrying mmj edibles. I tried 5 mg THC, and felt better, more relaxed, and my GI tract felt more relaxed, too. However, and a big however, I felt wretched the next day.

I'd like halve that dose and see.

How long until you found the right dose? And did you ever feel hung over the following day? I don't think I was high, esp to warrant such a miserable after effect.

I'd love this to work.

I certainly slept well.

Okay. I'm trying 2.5 mg THC.

There are these gumdrops reasonably priced, so when halved, the cost is 50¢.
