Wellbutrin has an immediate effect?

Posted by DrDad on July 12, 2018, at 23:04:38

Has anyone else observed that Wellbutrin has a noticeable effect within an hour of taking it? I used to take it regularly but now only when I'm upset or feeling out of sorts. I get relief within an hour.

no...but, kinda makes sense, especially with the old school instant release ones. wellbutrin is a mild stimulant, so it seems that it could boost mood a bit asap.

it's a mild stimulant... it's a dopamine/norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor, it's same as ritalin but weaker, i've always seen wellbutrin as a cup of coffee AD, you can notice your a bit more awake and with sorts, but not like adderall or ritalin in potency

That does make sense. It is related to the stimulants so it's probably just giving you a mental boost if you take it when needed.

Just so others know whether you're a medical doctor, would you mind putting something about that in your "signature"?

Will Wellbutrin make you psychotic when you are prone to being psychotic?

I don't know, honestly. I've been prescribed I think relatively high dose (400mgs) Wellbutrin, and I Have a history of psychosis. it was OK. Weird thing...I wanted Wellbutrin for depression, and I thought it would cause less apathy than a tca, ssri, ssnri, etc. so...

stopping was easy. I was a little tired for a day or two, no big thing. but...once it was out of my system, I realized that although it causes less apathy than many other drugs, it is still an antidepressant...I guess some apathy just comes with the territory?

In the past even 75mg had a very noticeable effect with no anxiety. Maybe i should try? Whats the worst that can happen? I may need to take a benzo and discontinue the next day. It doesnt get worse than that

hi. wellbutrin (like most antidepressants...) can boost levels of other pscyh drugs, especially tranquilizers. so...with high dose neuroleptics on board, that could be an issue.

other than that...now and then, there are reports of agitation and such, but really...personally, id take wellbutrin over most any other 'antidepressant,' unless its agitated depression or something like that...then you'd probably want something else.
