How does it feel?

I haven't, no.

But if you want a comparison with benzodiazepines, barbiturates generally appear to cause more sedation or fatigue and more dizziness/lightheadedness, but less memory impairment.

When taken regularly, the dependence caused by barbiturates is very intense. There is therefore a risk of serious symptoms such as seizures on withdrawal.

Phenobarb was used as a daytime sedative.

They are not good drugs, IMO. They lower the pain threshold somewhat, and the sleep they produce is not particularly restful.

I can recall my father being in hospital and the nurse coming round at night with a tray of different sorts of brightly coloured sedatives (red, yellow, was Tiunal multicoloured?), including barbiturates, to ask everyone to choose. Methaqualone, like morphine, never needed colour.

i've never taken one either, but read there's more sedation than benzos, there powerful sedatives but their easier to overdose on than benzos, and withdrawals are worse, phenobarbital yeah was used as a anxiety med before benzos, it's not particularly as strong as the others like secobarbital, amobarbital, which are mainly for sleep and sedation

only in headache medicine, and then just to keep a bad headache from transitioning into a migraine. it was...I dunno...OK, lol. I felt less pain, a slight stomach ache, a little slowed down in my thoughts.

No, benzodiazepines are more suitable for anxiety. Barbiturates are more sedating rather than anxiolytic.

They gave me barbiturates to knock me out for Electro Convulsive Therapy for my treatment resistant depression. It knocked me out pretty fast. And E.C.T. didn't work. Antibiotics did. Antibiotics cured 20 years of treatment resistance.

Just my opinion, but if anyone already has a considerable cocktail happening, adding another psychiatric prescription is not going to do any kind of miracles. I know miracles will happen but not from that route.

Were you wanting to take a barbiturate for something?

In general, psychiatrists never prescribe barbiturates. A very occasional exception is elderly people who have been dependent on them for decades. Most have long since been transferred to another medication though. Barbiturates are very toxic in overdose, and tend to cause strong physical dependence rapidly.

Phenobarbital is still used for epilepsy in older people who have been taking it for a long time. It is also used in newborns who are suffering frequent seizures in the intensive care setting.

Depression, loss of coordination and fatigue are common side effects of phenobarbital in adults.

No i was just wondering if there was a stronger med than lorazepam for anxiety. Situational anxiety (flying).

What anti-biotic?

Did you have a case study of this done?

I've read of this happening for psychotic disorders, never for MDD though

You could always try a higher dose or a different benzodiazepine. That could certainly help.

the difference between benzos and barbiturates for sleep is you don't dream on barbiturates, and that's why sometimes they say that barbs don't give you the best sleep, because they suppress REM sleep, and somewhere i read that for the body to restore, it has to dream, and go into REM sleep, for restorative process, you don't dream or have REM while on barbiturates, your just in deep sleep state

i think..... that's correct, maybe on some like phenobarbital you could have REM sleep, but on these medical boards they said that like Nembutal or the main sleep barbiturates, you don't dream, you just into a sleep state......who knows there's probably some of people who have dreamed on, but say that barbiturates suppress REM sleep

there're more harsh than benzos in getting you to sleep, when go to sleep, sometimes dream about things, but when under barbiturate sedation you don't dream, just puts you in a deep sleep
