Lethargic on Lexapro; expect that from Sertraline?

Posted by JohnBoy2000 on June 11, 2018, at 15:47:02

Are the response to SSRI's generally consistent enough?

I didn't get lethargic on Effexor.

Curious as to what sertraline would be like?

Anyone get lethargic on Lexapro - and respond better to Sertraline?

Not as consistent as you might expect. It is quite possible that sertraline would not cause lethargy. Only one way to find out. Taking the minimum dose which is effective will also minimise the side effects.

hi. i did well on standard dose celexa, not so wonderfully on zoloft. long term...i do better not an daily, ongoing, indefinite antidepressants, but i take other stuff. each individual is different, of course.

ssri drugs help with obsessive stuff, ruminations. personally, i find they help agitated depressive states, but other people cannot tolerate them for such.

if your core problems are fatigue, anhedonia, lack of concentration...i kind of doubt an ssri would be the best idea. its also worth noting that the data on long term use is kind of sparse, so...no one has answers to "what to do if it stops working" or "can the antidepressants end up making it worse" or "what's plan B?"

sorry. personally, zoloft did a number on my motivation...rough times. somehow, it also made me moody. other people swear by the stuff, especially with ocd-type probs involved.

Hi, C_E.

What medications do you think will work for such a depression?

These meds impact different people in different ways. I've been on all of them. I thought lexapro was lethargic and yet very prone to over activation at the same time. Zoloft to me was more of a neutral to slightly activating. Paxil was both lethargic and activating at the same time. Weird.

My favorite was Prozac. I still think Prozac is the best one out there, and that the other copycats are not as good. imo. On paper it has a lot more to offer - in terms of enhancing dopamine and norepinephrine action - than any of the others. It felt to me slightly activating in a sort of clean natural way.

Just my opinion but I think Prozac and Zoloft are really the only good ones, Prozac the best, and that the others are a waste of time and money. opinion
