Mirtazapine Agression

Posted by Lamdage22 on February 4, 2018, at 6:43:35

Hey dr-bob people,

mirtazapine worked for my depression but it also made me agressive. I am thinking about trying again to see if the agression subsides.

What do you think?

i don't know....im surprised a doctor will prescribe mirtazapine, considering how much seroquel and zyprexa you're taking. that seems like heavy, heavy sedation to me.

have you ever tried something more stimulating? there's very limited research on using provigil (maybe nuvigil, now...) in people on stable, ongoing neuroleptic treatment. sometimes helps mood, depression, and "negative symptoms." here in the US, provigil and nuvigil are expensive, but they're not nearly as restricted as, say, ritalin or the amphetamines.

some people w/ ongoing Schizoaffective disorder take wellbutrin. my concern there (and with many other antidepressants) would be boosting blood levels of the tranquilizers.

sorry about your situation.

I had irritability on mirtazapine when I used 15mg or more.

For sleep, I find even 1-3mg extremely sedating.

I would try a lower dose of mirtazapine.

It could be a good transition med in trying to reduce antipsychotic. It can also improve negative symptoms.
