ketamine and magic mushrooms for depression

You can add magic mushrooms along with ketamine to the list of illicit drugs which appear effective for depression.

Psilocybin looks better to me than the fetzima I was sent home with today :(

Give it (fetzima) a try. It is the metabolite of milicipran which is a very effective antidepressant.

It has more effect on norepinephrine (if I recall). I didn't think I would do well on a noradrenergic drug, but nortriptyline (NRI) has help significantly - much less cognitive impairment and apathy than an SSRI.

I agree.

Thanks Link, I'm on the fence. Can I ask your opinion on Cymbalta instead of Fetzima? Following the results of my gene test, he wanted to add a noradrenergic to my Trintellix. I forget the ratio, but fetzima is like 1:1.4 norepineprine to sert. However, cymbalta has better pain relief-- it's like 4:1.

I'm not thrilled by an add-on. Latuda was out due to test. He wanted me to take adderall or vvyanse-- but those are pretty strong.

But, regardless, I am thinking about microdosing if I felt confident about quality and dosage :(

According to Wikipedia fetzima levomilnacipran = 1:2. I.e. twice as potent towards norepinephrine as serotonin.

This drug could work very well with trintillex, which is more selective towards serotonin and receptors.

Depending on the dose you use with trintillex, you could get a more or less noradrenergic action. Taking two meds also allows different timing. So, you might take the fetzima earlier, if it is more stimulating.

I wouldn't worry too much about the specific ratio. If Cymbalta doesn't work, then you need to come off of it. If the fetzima doesn't work, you could try different med ratios, and perhaps only have to stop one med.

Almost every drug that people use for, err, recreational purposes can have short-term antidepressant effects.
Ketamine is distinctive in this regard b/c the AD dose is much lower than the dissociative one.

My doc actually suggested when I last saw him, a couple weeks ago, that I try ketamine, much to my surprise: while I'd heard of its use as an AD, I didn't know at the time that it was in use (much less widespread use) in the States. (This, in fact, was what led me to sub to this board after having left for quite a few years...I realised that I was way out of touch in regard to new developments in clinical psychiatry!)

Have you tried ketamine? My doc was curious if it might help me and said nasal ketamine is in development. I have read mention of potential for negative cognitive side effects with long term use.

I heard about this study a few weeks ago. Since I have access to magic mushrooms legally, I'm thinking about trying it out. I'd prefer pharmaceutical grade psilocybin, but it'll take us a few years before we get there.

Stimulants, Benzos, Opioids, Ketamine, Mushrooms...

I think that some people here just want a socially acceptable way of getting high. To me that is what psychiatry is. Not more and not less.

What goes up most come down.
