Combining 2 stimulants?

Posted by B2chica on November 8, 2017, at 15:04:08

So i went off dexedrine because it was great for energy and somewhat focus, but nothing else.
I'm on Evekeo now, and good for focus and cognition but that's it.

What if one were to take both low dose of Evekeo and Dexedrine sulfate together?
For example, i used to take 20mg Adderall am and 20mg Adderall in afternoon.
What if one took 10mgEvekeo plus 10mg dexedrine in both am and afternoon?

Would that be a major heartattack waiting or would it be a possibility?
didnt want to sound like a major idiot but i figured worth a shot asking here.

I don't know the answer to your question. Sorry.

What is the advantage to using racemic D+L-amphetamine (Evekeo) as opposed to D-amphetamine (Dexedrine)? Half of each dose of Evekeo contains Dexedrine. What was your thinking regarding combining the two drugs?

dexedrine is more direct, evkeo has both levo/dextro ismoers, it increases more norepinephrine.....improves cognitive skills. not sure if a doc would give 2 stimulants, but basically yes adderall is both of those, but racmatic amphetamine does have benefits, it's seems kinda less abusable, because lowered dextro inomer......
you could ask about that, but just work with your doctor on that, even though adderall is both isomers, not sure they would use both, but you never know. I would just try to increase the evekeo to maybe 20-40....
real quick :
Dexedrine: dextroamphetamine 100%
Evekeo: dextroamphetamine 50% levo amphetamine 50% (racmatic amphetamine)
Adderall: dextroamphetamine 75 % levoamphetamine 25 % (i think that's accurate, that's their level of mixture)

hi. personally, i don't think its the best idea. maybe...a long acting dexedrine formulation and an afternoon adderall or evekeo booster dose?

hope this helps. sorry you're going through it.

To be honest im trying desperately to find something that did for me what the CorePharma mfg. version of Adderall did for me. Helped with energy, attention/focus, cognition and best of all, my mood..
I can no longer get(find) the CorePharma brand anywhere -i think they got bought out and just completely stopped making it.

Anyway. The dexedrine was great for my lethargy, gave great physical energy and i was able to work out a few times a week. once i want up to 20mg i was focusing....scratch that Hyperfocusing to a severe degree. My cognition and mood were not improving, in fact my mood was staarting downward. and i got really scared. With that type of hyperfocusing and my aggitated depression/Biopolar mixed, that felt very dangerous to me.

Then i went (and on now) Evekeo.
i just increased to 20am and 20afternoon so not sure yet. but on 10's only gave me enough energy to get out of bed and do basic functions. not much more. But my cognition i felt starting to come back. I do feel it is much better now on 20. Also i can focus some now.
Yet once again, no mood enhancement, my focus is only 'meh...' and my energy is in the toilet. I was hoping there was a way i could get the boost of energy and focus from dexedrine along with cognitive abilitiese form Evekeo.

*********
However, i found some old CorePharma and went back on those for 4 days. I still had breakthrough depression, so the new meds aren't totally to blame. and will need to augment with some type of AD. at least for a while.

thanks
Scott

hi. have you ever taken provigil or nuvigil? haven't myself, but I have seen some people on provigil or nuvigil and then a more traditional stimulant on top. i don't know if its a good idea, or even an option for you at all, but...thought I'd mention it.

the other thing I thought of was maybe a tricyclic. from what i understand, tca+amphetamine combinations are not too common these days, but they can be -very- effective. tofranil, for instance, is somewhat effective in ADD/ADHD, plus it can help more severe forms of depression, also. I once took Tofranil-PM at night and then Adderall during the day, and the combination was kind of rough, but effective.

that's pretty much all I can think of...well, that or a switch back to Desoxyn, but try to get the dose a bit higher this time around.

sorry you're struggling.

Hi, B2C.

Have you ever tried Ritalin (methylphenidate)? How did it affect you?

I did not react well to Ritalin. It made me a bit agitated, but did not make my depression worse. Focalin (dexmethylphenidate), on the other hand, helps me. Although the improvement lasted only 5 hours, there wasn't a severe crash afterward. However, there is now a long-acting preparation called Focalin XR. I found Focalin to be much "smoother" than Ritalin.

I agree with others along this thread that you will most likely need an antidepressant. I should think that Effexor or Parnate would help. Personally, I like the idea of combining Effexor with either Wellbutrin or nortriptyline. If you don't want to try Effexor for some reason, Lexapro or Zoloft would make reasonable alternatives.

Good luck.

hi. me again. i think i've mentioned this before...sometimes, doctors will prescribe a long acting stimulant for the AM, then an IR tablet in the afternoon. that was my routine w/ ritalin LA (try to avoid ritalin la, btw) and then a focalin tablet in the afternoon.

some tranquilizers can help, combined with stimulants. of course, all the tranquilizers carry serious risks, but some of the newer ones can cover a lot of bases with just 1 pill, so that's always a good thing.

maybe seroquel xr at night at then whatever stimulant(s) during the day? ive read that remeron can help w/ mood, anxiety, etc. in people on stimulant treatment. that could help and spare you having to deal w/ adverse effects from tranquilizers.

i like scott's suggestions more than my suggestion of tca+amphetamine. kinda rough, although I did find it effective, for a season.

do you take any supplements?

Hey SLS,
was on Ritalin and Rit LA in 2005, neither worked well for either ADD or depression.
interesting, i will put Focalin (XR) down on my list of possibilities.

CE
have not take pro or nuvigil. though i did bring up provigil to pdoc before...but never went anywhere.
thank you for kind words

i was on low dose remeron before with no response at all.
seroquel dumb as box of hammers.
no supplements, but i do as mostly natural foods as possible.(finally got juicer and Love it.

I take nuvigil. It seems to help some. Just wanted to recommend that if you do try it and your insurance won't cover it (most won't unless it's for sleep issues) that you buy it at Costco. Or at least price shop. It used to be incredibly expensive for seemingly no reason. Within the past year Costco began selling it for $50 to $75 (and if it nuvigil you can request the Teva brand which now owns the original brand maker Cephalon / pills the same).

Other pharmacies like Walgreens still charge $300 to $500 to fill a normal script.

There's a whole Reddit group devoted to Provigil & Nuvigil since it's pretty popular in college these days: https://www.reddit.com/r/afinil/

If you've ever had a genetic test done I believe there is a way to tell if i
You'll likely respond. Some people w a specific Gene variation don't respond well if at all.

Its not crazy, and probably not dangerous, but why would you combine two drugs whose effects you don't like?
