GAD without worry or fear

Posted by linkadge on November 6, 2017, at 17:03:11

Anxiety is a big part of my issue, but I am not afraid of anything. I also don't worry.

Is this possible? Is it possible to have an anxiety disorder without being afraid of anything, or constantly worrying about anything?

This is why I think that antidepressants fail to treat my anxiety. My anxiety is not the result of a negative outlook.

I have absolutely had the same experience. I am not a worrier at all - very much a "what me worry", "things will work out one way or another" kind of person. I have no phobias, I don't dwell on negatives. I don't often have anxiety problems, but when I do, they completely derail me. The symptoms are entirely physical. My heart won't stop racing, I feel nauseous. I once lost 15 pounds in a month when I was in the throes of a virtually endless anxiety attack. My psychiatrist didn't want to prescribe a benzo because I've had a history of addiction, but my DBT therapist - who at first was all - let's look at the negative thoughts - finally gave up on trying to figure out emotional causes and called my psychiatrist, telling him I needed a benzo to control the anxiety.

As it turned out, just a few days on a low dose of xanax put my body back in a normal state and the anxiety went away.

I realize I was lucky here. I don't suffer from chronic anxiety.

Anxiety can lurk in the background in unsuspecting ways. My first experience with SSRIs helped with depression and obvious signs of social anxiety and paranoia. It also helped with dissociation and my ability to read, type, exercise, complete cognitive tasks and write, which I had no idea were impaired in the first place or that were related to anxiety.

i've had dysphoric anxiety, where my mood was low yet i was on edge, and irrtible, it this feeling of being lifeless but having anxiety.....i used to even have this when i was a teenager, when i posted here 14 years ago.....i started prozac in 05, it helped but there were alot of events that happened, that caused me to sink in depression even with fluoxetine at maximum, resorting to supernatural healing, which yes i have seen taken place that why i write on faith board of my thoughts, if it wasn't for supernatural force, i would be in a horrid place i was years ago.....but still i do struggle with it, its not a total cure, i do have bad days still, but there not as near as they used to be

i think GAD generally is low serotonin and low GABA, that's why there no rest or content period, you just always in this dyphori mood, and irrtible, everything looks dreafulm the next days ahead, ughhh.....just believe hard that you'll get out of it, having hope mixed into it will help you move out of it

Did you mention at some point that you have some tendency toward rumination? (I might be mistaken in this.)

GAD is accompanied by mental distortions of some sort I would think. Otherwise, wouldn't the symptoms have an idiopathic nos diagnosis?

He Beckett,

My anxiety comes across as more hyper-arousal. If I am cognitively ruminating, or worried, the thoughts are very non-specific. I can't pinpoint what I am worried about. I just know that I feel anxious.
