Lamactil - For Anxious Depression (not Bipolar)

Posted by Mermaid16 on September 27, 2017, at 19:12:41

Hi! I have really been struggling the last year or so. I suffer from chronic anxious depression and right now I find it hard to get through the day it is so bad. I don't have Bipolar depression, but have been diagnosed with anxious depression. Current meds are Olanzapine 2.5mg (which I want to change because of weight gain), Mirtazapine 30mg, Nortriptyline 100mg and 4mg of Clonazepam. Clonazepam is 1mg morning and arvo and 2mg at night. I still am suffering from the anxiety and depression and feel like I'm at the end of my tether. I'm just over it. Do you think that Lamactil could help, even though I'm not bipolar. The psych has scripted it, but wants me to try max out at 150mg of Nortriptyline first to see if this helps. I have been at 100mg before and it didn't help. Any suggestions of what I can try would be greatly appreciated. Of course I will run these past the psych first. Thanks in Advance. Anyone else out there experience anything similar. Feel like I'm the only one in the world with anxious depression. People have it, but I don't know what meds they take to control it. Thanks...Tracy

i've been on lamictal for a while, its not an antidepressant, but i've noticed it's effect on keeping me out the slumps around the later in the day, basically ill take and i'll feel less irratic, it slows down thoughts a little but in a stable manner, for anxiety....i truely don't know....i've had anxiety on lamictal basically through out treatment, but mine is more situational anxiety, it just kinda levels you....keeps you in a normal state of mood, there's people here that have taken lamotragine for mood disorder and have found it good. It calms things down, but it does not do with GABA, it's mainyl a sodium blocker

it's worth a try....its not a gold standard for anxiety....no, but it could help some

Do you mind if I ask what you take it for? Do you take any other medications? Is it just for depression? I'm also really freaked out by the rash. I just have super intense anxiety for most of the day (I don't have any mania or anything and I don't have any really low lows). The anxiety at the high level just gets to a point when I've had enough and then I get depressed. I am really eager to get off Clonazepam as well, but know that I need to be stable to be able to even attempt it. Thanks for your reply. It is really appreciated :-)

for treatment-resistant depression, on to fluoxetine, lamotrigine is not a gold standard for anxiety, but it does stabilize things and erratic thoughts, i was on 400mg a year ago it did calm my thoughts, but still would have anxiety but not extent, standard dose usually is 200, for depression or mood swings, 400 is reinforcing and makes you kinda dulled out

neurontin - gapapentin lyrica - pregabalin would be a better choice for anxiety, lamotrigine does help mood stay normal but not sure for severe anxiety

One of lamictal's indication is nervous depression. Works wonderfully for me. I do have bipolar ll, but it does express itself as anxious depression. If you go this route, know that lamictal may take a few months to fully kick in.

What you need to understand is mania can present as intense anxiety.
