Followup on benzo study about mortality risk (not)

Posted by PeterMartin on July 21, 2017, at 0:29:17

There was a lot of news last yr about a study that showed increased risk of mortality of all causes amongst people who use benzodiazapines. A study published this week (July 2017) found that when properly matched to similar non-users the risk of mortality wasnt greatly increased.

For anyone who read about this last year here is the new study:

Thanks, Peter

I'm happy that benzodiazepines BZDs are not liable to produce an increase in all-reason fatality.

Other concerns with the long-term use of BZDs are related to irrevsrsible memory impairment and an acceleration in the emergence of Alzheimer's Dementia. Right now, my impression is that neither of these occur at a greater risk when compared to non-users. I haven't researched these things thoroughly, though.

I read that people with anxiety are already at more risk of dementia but don't remember where.

ativan sometimes used to make me forget things more easily......but there risk of death....i don't know the hospital visits percentages, obviously there better than barbiturates, taking too many barbiturates is deadly, while taking too many ativan's would just make you go sleep and wake up in a bad mood have a withdrawal afterwards
