Hypomanic from Seroquel?

Posted by Sheilac on July 13, 2017, at 19:17:27

I've only been taking Seroquel again for about a week. I've noticed that I do feel hypomanic when it starts to wear off. Tonight I actually go up to 200mg. I do enjoy not being depressed.

Anyone experience this?

when seroquel wears off, yes that means the nuerotransmitters start rushing again, you could ask about seroquel xr, or lower dose later if needed

To my knowledge, there are only two antipsychotics that inhibit the reuptake of norepinephrine (NE) - Seroquel and Geodon. I believe you get manic with both of these drugs, right? Perhaps you are sensitive to NE drugs. You could possibly use a SNRI to treat depression in combination with an antipsychotic or mood-stabilizer to prevent mania. What happens when you take Abilify or Saphris?

Well, it was hard the first week feeling manic, but now I'm on week 2 and I'm taking 200mg at night. I've been sleeping good and I feel pretty even during the day. At 200mg I haven't felt manic, maybe a little hyper if I have to take a pain pill, but I can always take 25mg during the day. A good thing is that I'm actually losing a few pounds and not overeating or craving junk.

Abilify made me itchy and fat.

So, I guess 200mg seroquel and 2500mg Keppra are working pretty good. And I'm using the regular version. The XR version was awful.

I'm glad your concerns regarding Seroquel and mania have resolved. I hope you continue with a successful treatment.

What happened to Geodon?

I loved Geodon, but it made me very shaky, so much so I couldn't hold a fork or right my name. My doctor considered that a huge allergic reaction and she put that permanently on my file so I don't take Geodon ever again. I was up to 180mg.

I wasn't sure Seroquel was going to work, but this week has been a true test. I've got family in this week and I've been super stressed, but the Seroquel has kept me stable.

That's good news.

:-)

I hope it continues.
