Parnate Not Working: Marplan or Nardil Energizing?

Posted by mrm48013601 on July 15, 2017, at 20:56:45

My diagnosis has always been major depression. My primary symptom is a lack of energy, a sort of fatigue. I'm 100 mg of Parnate and it isn't working.

Can anyone say if Marplan or Nardil is "energizing?"

Thank you very much.

I found Nardil 90 mg/day to be more energizing than Parnate 120 mg/day. I also had more trouble sleeping with Nardil. Everyone is different, though. Are you taking any other medications? Did Parnate help you at any point?

Thank your for your response, Scott.

To your answer your question: Yes. My psychiatrist has put me on Nuvigil and I've been on Deplin for some two years or so. I'm on 150 mg of Nuvigil in the morning and my guess is that he will raise the dose.

In fact, this is the third time I've been on Parnate. Previously, it worked very well for me. This time, I'm only aware that I'm on it when, for one reason or another, I miss a day. Then, I become "teary-eyed." I've been on virtually every other prescription antidepressant ever created in the Western World. For example, I've been on Prozac three times and it was only the first time I was on it that it worked.

Your experience with Prozac is all too common.

I see that Phidippus suggested that you consider chronic fatigue syndrome as an explanation for your lack of energy. I have two questions:

1. What are your symptoms and diagnosis?

2. What drugs have you added to Parnate?

Currently, I take:

Parnate 80 mg/day
nortriptyline 100 mg/day
Lamictal 300 mg/day
lithium 300 mg/day
Abilify 15 mg/day
prazosin 30 mg/day

I recently increased my dosage of Abilify from 10 mg/day to 15 mg/day. I am encouraged. If I had to make a change in my treatment, I would consider switching from Parnate to Effexor 300-400 mg/day and leave everything else in place.

i'm not MAOI savy, i've never been on one, but from what i hear = nardil would be a good choice, I think Marplan is more just "anti-depressant" in general, nardil and parnate have reputations for being stimulating, alot of posters have wrote the energizing effects of nardil

The first time i took and Nardil and before psychosis kicked in it was energizing in a "i love everybody and everything MDMA" kind of fashion.

In my opinion thats not something you want to play around with.

OK so I know this is counter-intuitive, but I am finding that propranolol is completely negating the lethargic detached feeling I have on Parnate.

Hopefully I'm not jinxing myself. I was exhausted all afternoon and neither coffee nor red bull was touching it. I could have taken a double dose of parnate that tends to lift me for an hour or two.

Just FWIW. It would be interesting to know if, for some, lethargy is a response to NE. WB zonked me also.
