Borderline PD and benzo WD: Lamictal - SLS, SOS

Posted by zonked on January 14, 2017, at 13:32:15

I've been forced off benzodiazepines, I guess for good... Still tapering, 0.25mg Klonopin twice a day. (In addition to Nardil 90mg/day, gabapentin 600mg t.i.d, and prazosin 2mg h.s.)

Also: Omega 3 fish oil and a turmeric extract with bioperine. (I found out I may have wasted my money on that, there seems to be mixed scientific consensus on whether or not it's effective for anything, but I digress) --

I don't know what's due to the benzo taper, what's due to the cognitive blunting and forgetfulness and spacing out from the gabapentin, and what is really "me" - but my symptoms include terrible nightmares, cycling mood states (what it _FEELS_ like is rapid cycling or ultra rapid cycling bipolar disorder.)

Fluctuating levels of empathy for the people around me, dysphoria, transient suicidal thoughts, etc.

Since Lamictal is the only mood stabilizer I've ever been able to tolerate, and I think it might reduce the affective instability I'm suffering from [it has in the past] and also reduce potential glutaminergic excitotoxicity from the BZD withdrawal, and has shown in some studies to be effective for BPD, what do you all think?

I've asked my addiction psychiatrist. I really hope she will oblige.

I'm really scared, yeah I am. I don't want to be like this. Taking the Klonopin away has made me feel very very "raw"....

I also would like her to consider daytime prazosin as SLS has suggested, or Low-Dose naltrexone but this particular psychiatrist seems to be very "by the book" and unfortunately I have to stay with her for awhile.

I hate being a mess.

I quit 6mg klonopin cold turkey and 3 month later (now) i still feel the after effects from it.
The first 2 weeks i just burst out crying hysterically all day, and as you say, the world feel very raw and ugly.
It is consider to be the worst withdrawal of every drug there is, and clonazepam is exceptional in that way that the withdrawal is very very long.
In sweden we don't use klonopin that often due to this fact, so i feel with you..

But it will go away eventually and then i think you will be happy that it happened, cause i have gotten my emotional life back. It is wonderful!! i promise you.

When you have been of it a couple of month you will find out how blunted you were when you were on klonopin.

I hope everything goes well and i think if you do taper as you do then the withdrawal should be easier, but remember that klonopin is the worst so what you feel is not dangerous.

And it can take up to 3 month before you will be able to feel joy again, but then you will feel real joy!

And remember that everything i wrote is just my personal experience.

kind regards / J.
