Could i replace Zyprexa with Seroquel

Posted by Lamdage22 on January 3, 2017, at 23:51:34

Just a thought, Seroquel may not be as bad with OCD Symptoms as Zyprexa is. Maybe i could get on 2k Seroquel???

2000mg of seroquel would be a nightmare, that is too high....you would have side effects......

maybe ask your doctor to switch you to geodon, it may be good for OCD symptoms, that or adding an SSRI or increasing effexor

i dont tolerate Geodon. And as for Ssri or Effexor, i dont want my sex life to be stolen from me.

I guess i will have to taper Zyprexa down slowly!

2000 mg/day?

I don't know.

Wouldn't it be more desirable to try something that is novel to your system rather than to continue to try something (Seroquel) that is of questionable value to you at a dosage 1200 mg/day higher than the recommended maximum of 800 mg/day? that's a 150% jump.

Have you tried Saphris (asenapine) yet? It seems to be good for schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorder, especially when treating paranoia. It also acts as a strong antidepressant for some people. It is less likely than most other atypical neuroleptic antipsychotics to produce weight gain.

I see that Buspar (buspirone) can act as an aid in the treatment of psychosis.

I dont think it would be. Seroquel is the least evil to me and i have tried many others. And frankly, i am scared sh*tl*ss to try anything new because of the experiences i have made on the meds i already tried. It tells me that it is no good to try psychiatric drugs. I dont even dare to try the Chlorprothixene i have it at home. Its probably going in the trash. Tardive Dyskinesia risk is lower with Seroquel than with others. Obsessive compulsive symptoms are allegedly less than with Zyprexa. Weight gain can be managed although i would love to lose another 10 pounds. But thats just cosmetic, not medical.
It would probably be a drastic change for my brain though to go on high dose Seroquel instead of the Seroquel/Zyprexa combo. I think want to avoid that.

I am not willing to try anything except lower dosages of the drugs i already take. I think its a mistake that i tried medication in the first place. The meds i take now are a familiar problem. I know what to expect and i feel halfway safe which i wouldnt if i got onto a new drug. My first not self given diagnosis was Phenelzine induced psychosis. So...

I realize you guys are trying to support people but i think the advice is given too lightly. I have looked into the topic deeply enough to have a clue.

What is your opinion on Magnesium? The withdrawal website recommends it and i hear it can help obsessive-compulsive symptoms. For depression i didnt notice a thing but maybe for OCS it can help

maybe Abilify instead of the zyprexa? I read that it causes less D2 upregulation than other antipsychotics, and its sometimes used in combination with other tranquilizers.

Do you think maybe you could taper the zyprexa and just keep the seroquel the same? You're on a high dose combination. Personally ((just speaking as another "patient")) my goal would be to reduce the overall neuroleptic dosage.

Absolutely. I think now i finally found the correct way to lower Zyprexa. And support.

Did you really mean to say 2000 mg of Seroquel? That's a lot. Seroquel and Zyprexa have different binding profiles but at that dose you should get high levels of D2 antagonism. And you are going to have to keep a close eye on your blood sugar and blood lipids.

From what I've read you are almost guaranteed to develop insulin resistance at that dose although it's marginally better than Zyprexa I suppose. Have you considered something a little more friendly like Abilify?

Why so much?

the best antipsychotic for OCD (study after study) is paliperidone (Invega/Risperidone)

You're, like, taking the highest recommended doses of Seroquel and Zyprexa.

What is your diagnosis?

Yeah i know. I have gone psychotic on Nardil and i have a schizo-affective type depressive diagnosis. I dont care so much about that anymore though. Right now i think i have OCD thoughts from Trazodone so i try to get off that first. Its not wise to change two meds simultaneously.

You think you have OCD thoughts from Trazadone? Do you not normally have them?

My experience with psych meds is that everything is possible good and bad and that reactions are extremely individual. My roomate gets hallucinations from Lorazepam.
