light therapy past or present

Does anyone here have experience with light therapy?

Now that my mood has been stable for sometime, I can observe well enough to think I've SAD as well.

It didn't do much for me, but some people benefit dramatically from it. (I don't have SAD, but I wanted to try light therapy because people without SAD can benefit from light therapy.) I used a blue light device like this, because I read that it's more effective than white light.

I basically followed the protocol outlined here and had good results but the effect was not lasting. Perhaps if I had followed up with consistent early morning bright light exposure for an hour a day it would have prolonged the effects. I Used a 400Watt Ceramic metal halide bulb in a glass shielded reflector as my light box. It's a full spectrum setup used for growing marijuana indoors and was quite bright.

How long did your good results last?

Not long a few days, but I have bipolar and it was under treated at the time. I actually think if I did it again it would switch me into hypomania because the effect is pretty intense.

I can actually be switched by spending a day in bright sunshine so I'm sensitive that way.

I recommend it though. I think if you are prone to SAD it would be very helpful. It's just a pain in the *ss because your schedule will be majorly twweaked for a few days.
