Brintellix

Posted by Horse on August 1, 2015, at 18:15:19

My doc increased my lexapro from 20-30 mg because anxiety and panic attacks have returned after a year.

Among his thoughts was that if this didn't work, we could switch to another AD, perhaps Brintellix.

Any experience here with it? I can't crunch the numbers, so any science-heads know why it might work for anxiety over another AD?

Try to get the attention of Phidippus (Eric). He is currently taking Brintellix 40 mg/day. He really likes it. I believe he has OCD to contend with. His post:

Thanks! Maybe he'll see the subject line.

Brintellix is fantastic for anxiety at higher doses-twice those prescribed for depression. 20 mg is the max dose, but I take 40 mg and have experienced a strong anxiolytic effect.

Brintellix acts as a 5ht1a receptor agonist, a 5ht1d antagonist and a 5ht3a antagonistm-all of these mechanisms deliver an anxiolytic effect.

Thanks Eric. I'm switching today. Fingers crossed.

So not mania inducing?

That's good. Saphris induced a strong hypomania. I recall both have some 5-ht7 action. Which may not have anything to do with Saphris' affect.

Well, I start tonight. Thanks Eric and best to you.

I misremembered. It was Latuda I was thinking about. It did not cause mania as did Saphris. It produced agitation.

Thanks all for input.

Latuda treated me badly. It exacerbated my bipolar depression. I'm thinking that NE alpha-2 antagonism is responsible for this. Saphris demonstrated some transient antidepressant effects for me. Unfortunately, it stopped working. My friend gleaned a huge antidepressant effect from it. It doesn't surprise me that you became manic on it.

I wish you better luck with Brintellix.
