She says that Klonopin ruined her life for eight years. She was a cocaine addict and checked into the Betty Ford Center to get off of it. When she got out, a doctor prescribed Valium for her, then Xanax, and finally Klonopin. Odd that she'd be prescribed downers when an upper was her drug of choice. She said Klonopin was far harder to quit than cocaine. I don't doubt her, since quitting Ativan is the hardest thing I've ever done.

I read that it was a high dose, like 8mgs/day or something. That would cause anyone problems, especially if you're prone to depression.

Maybe benzos=how rich people quit drugs? I dunno...

klonopin is not as euphoric as the other benzo's, well i mean not even to say euphoric, usally they make you just relax and calm down, and it can give a "relief" feeling from the anxiety going on in the brain......

but klonopin is the least euphoric benzo.....it made me depressed, sedated, i mean the anxiety was gone, but you didnt get that feeling of pleasant relaxation from xanax......but i do know it stops panic attacks and calms things down.....

it's kinda like the phenobarbital of the barbiturates, it's suttle and and not as euphoric,, yet it does bring anxiety down with sedation.....

it did make my anxiety go away, but it also made me in a slump......when i took xanax i was in better mood, klonopin was like boring sedation

Yes she has said was prescribed klonopin to get off the cocaine. I don't know what her dose was. I believe her when she says it's the hardest drug to get off. I had a horrible experience. Of course when you throw in doctors who deny there is a withdrawal at all and try to label you with a new mental illness that doesn't help either.

It's a great medication for severe anxiety, but should not be used long term in my view.

Stevie was taking 8 mg a day and I think was rushed off of the drug. Don't know the time frame. Had she ever heard of a second opinion?

well, I would consider taking it daily for 3 years to be long term...that just an example...I don't know what the cut off is for short term/long term. Fact is though it can be more difficult to get off of the longer you've been on it.

Do you take Klonopin? Do you find it helpful?

Phil, a lot of people blindly follow their doctor's recommendations without getting a second opinion. I'd imagine at the time there wasn't nearly as much public info about the potential dangers of benzos.

Didn't she also do heroin? I think her point has always been "this was the worst drug I ever detoxed from. and I've done everything"

She said she spent millions on coke. Never heard heroin but who knows?

Hi,
In the nurses drug handbook it says that all benzo's are to be used for a 12 week max period of time. I doubt that this is followed.
My personal experience with Xanax was that it was not all that difficult to quit but I took it only as needed, not as prescribed. If I had taken it as prescribed (1 every 12 hours) it would have been much harder to quit.
I read Stevie Nick's recent bio where she talks about her Klonopin use. I believe she had trouble with it-why i don't know. Drugs are tools- sometimes people don't know how (or aren't told how) to use them properly.
