Brintellix - how potent an SSRI and sexual sides?

Posted by mikezz on July 10, 2015, at 7:57:28

Hi,

I've been recently prescribed Brintellix after only partial response to Prozac.

Im wondering , is this a true SSRI with potency similar to zoloft for eg?

I have read it has weak 'occupancy', but not sure how that translates from a Pkenitc standpoint.

I don't want to be on a claytons / weak SSRI, so I'm just wondering.

Also, does anyone know how the sexual side effects compare to other SSRIs? I just don't want them to be worse, if it's the same or better, I can accept that.

Thanks!

The clinically effective dose range for Brintellix (520 mg/day) spans ~50 to >80% SERT occupancy. SERT and 5-HT3 receptors are primarily occupied at 5 mg, while at 20 mg, all targets are likely occupied at functionally relevant levels.

Minimum therapeutic doses of flouxetine, paroxetine and citalopram produce 80% occupancy for the serotonin (5-HT) transporter (5-HTT).

Brintellix is comparable in efficacy to Prozac, Lexapro and Paxil.

I had no sexual side effects while on Brintellix.
