bipolar and weight issues: metabolic syndrome

Posted by Crotale on September 7, 2014, at 19:21:21

I thought this subject would be of interest to a lot of folks here:

I know a lot of us have major problems with weight, including weight gain as a side effect of meds (sometimes very unpredictable), which some doctors do not take seriously, or respond by just telling you to eat better and exercise. This is a serious health problem that should not be taken lightly or written off as vanity.

Metformin fixes this for the most part.

Lost 30 pounds on metformin in around 6 months, no diet change or exercise. for some boneheaded move my dr stopped it. I'm back on it. You don't have to be diabetic and now they use it for AP WG and some are using it for fat people that have neither.
Some people have Metformin Moments, i.e. sh*t their pants. It can hit at any time. Even with that side effect dr's keep diabetes patients on it to keep from having to advance to insulin. My bro is type 2 and has never had a problem. It is totally worth a try!

Ask your doctor about Metformin. You can google some studies on it against AP induced weight gain and metabolic syndrome.

You can show your doc the studies and tell him about our anecdotes.

Look at us, its working.
