Sorry,

Meant to say 45mgs of Remeron. They don't make a 4mg tablet. :)

I am a fan of Latuda, primarily as an add-on. I one day see it becoming the next Abilify (approved as an add-on by the FDA). Abilify is another option.

Also consider Geodon.

As you can see, I am a fan of the third generation antipsychotics. Zyprexa carries a lot of weight. Literally.

Thank you for your reply. So do you think that Latuda has anti anxiety properties potentially for OCD? Thanks again

Abilify and Latuda seem to be the obvious choices. Geodon is also a viable option. I have OCD too and have thrown every atypical I can at it. I'd have to say Abilify provided the most robust response.

Atypicals work in treating OCD by decreasing dopamine levels in the brain, which tend to be increased in those with OCD.

I would say that it has no more advantage than Zyprexa (which would like be superior, honestly), but it is good on the side effects part of the equation and would be similar to olanzapine in terms of effectiveness in treating your OCD. Antipsychotics really shouldn't be a first-line remedy for OCD, but both Zyprexa and Latuda are possible candidates.

I meant Seroquel (quietipine ). I was mistaken by your post. I think you can cure the restlessness with a higher dose of it and alteration of your mirtazapine. I think this is a good option since you'r familiar with the drug and have had good benefits. This is the point I was trying to make.

Thanks Eric I appreciate the response. I must admit I am a bit timid to take abilify as my sister took it for depression (she has absolutely no ocd in her) and while she was on it she actually developed ocd. She would check everything over and over. She went off abilify and it immediately subsided. I am not opposed though. Zyprexa I was on at 5mgs and it was excellent for anxiety but moderate weight gain.

Thanks for your feedback. I am encouraged to hear that you think the remeron could be a contributing factor to the restlessness.

Atypicals can cause OCD as they antagonize seratonin receptors. If you're treating your OCD with an AD (except Wellbutrin)then there's not much of a risk of exacerbating your OCD with Abilify.

Invega is my favorite for treating the symptoms of OCD. Zyprexa is good too.

The past year and a half I have battled with seroquel's restlessness and tachardia. My sister does well on it and sleeps soundly. As Louisianasportsman pointed out and is correct the added mirtazipine I am sure contributed to it however even without mirtazipine I still had restlessnesses and depression kicked in this week so my doctor has put me on latuda as he said it is good for depression. Hoping it works! Thanks for all the thoughts and ideas.

Geodon 20mg. was found to be as effective as diazepam (Valium) 10mg in relieving pre dental surgery anxiety, and it also helps control depression, usualy with a more conventional antidepressant.

Mirtazapine can be a potent anxiety relieving drug as well as helping depression

Did you try Risperdal yet?
I was trying it at only .25 mgs and had relief from body tension type anxiety and run around thoughts in my head that led to anxiety. Sadly I stopped it for fear of side effects but am trying to work up the courage to go back on it at the .25 but my Dr. felt .50 would be good enough for anxiety. I think a lot of people who quit meds from side effects do so because the high doses are just too high and they don't try lower doses first..just my thoughts but I hardly feel qualified yet to give much advice any then my own experience which was a good one!

Thanks for your message. Haven't tried Risperdal. Looking for something to kick the depression too. I am on 40mgs of Latuda right now and it is definitely an interesting medication. Very activating and helpful. No tachycardia which is great but not sure how much it is doing for the depression. Only on it for 12 days so hopefully it will continue to improve.

My experience though not depressed but depressed with issues of home life and heath I did find risperdal to help with clearer thinking and to keep me calm when turmoil was around me such as 4 grandkids running around with 2 puppys, homework needing to be done, snacks made and kids arguing, it normally stressed me out to tears almost but I found an inner calm and strength and quietness within and I didn't argue with hubby and grown kids and definitely didn't thrown things and was able to walk away when irritated. I did read several reviews I this med and I found so many that says it helps their depression

Awesome. It sounds like you were on such a small dose that I do hope that you can give it another shot. I have a friend who is on 1.5mgs of Risperdal and is greatly helped by it with no side effects except she sleeps like a baby! Be well,

Oh no I hope you didn't think I was being sarcastic in any way. I hope I didn't offend you. I seriously appreciate it and am going to talk to my doctor about it. In closing I was just trying to help you as well as you were trying to help me as well. I just genuinely hope that you can get back on it so it can help you again. I meant everything with the best intentions. I am sorry if it came across the wrong way.

yes I agree and when I was taking it I didn't have racing thoughts per se but I still had a ton of fear and I was hoping that it would helped my anxiety towards the fear, maybe in time it would of but the fear was too over powering...maybe I can get through it this time. I was taking 2.5 mgs of valium to help me get through the anxiety of taking it lol it helped and I may have to do that again for a few days till I get use it again.

Because when I've had them they have all been the big daddy of them all, the tonic clonic or grand mal, you lose totally consciousness, wet your pants, foam at the mouth, lose your memory, can have brain damage from it, if I was driving I could kill someone if I didn't get the aura, the aura is similar to the visual migraines I get and they terrify me because sometimes I wonder if it is a seizure aura or an actual migraine, thankfully its always the migraine...need I say more? it just a horrible thing to have to go through mentally for me..they terrify me!

Then I really don't understand why you're not on an anticonvulsant - it will help like the risperidal and keep the seizures from happening.

0.25-0.50 Risperidone is actually the first add-on to antidepressants most psychiatrists will prescribe for depression and/or anxiety that is hard to manage with antidepressant and benzodiazepine medication alone. If it doens't work, they try lithium. And if that doesn't work also, then they switch around doses. If that still doesn't work when anxiety is the main issue, they recommend higher dose antipsychotics, atypical or typical. For depression, it's zap time!
