Viibryd - success? Buspar, Cymbalta?

Posted by Sheilac on September 1, 2013, at 9:23:46

If I have to take a Klonopin to get out of bed due to Buspar wearing off from the night before, it's probably not a good med.

I went ahead and started the 5mg of Viibryd. So far, no wear off of that med in the morning.

I'm wondering if Viibryrd is just a longer acting Buspar? Is it more like Cymbalta?

Anyone have success with it?

It is expensive, but my insurance will charge me the same for Viibryd as Cymbalta. The only thing I get a $ break on is generics.

The increased anxiety from Buspar sucked.

I may do fine with Viibryd and Klonopin.

It can be seen as Lexapro and Buspar in one pill, with almost the same half-life as Lexapro. Although Buspar does a little more than act as a partial agonist at the 5-HT1A receptor.

So, what does Buspar do when you say it acts as/more than a partial agonist at the 5-HT1A?

I not exactly sure what I'm doing taking both 5mg Viibryd and 10-15mg a day of Buspar. I thought maybe the Buspar is overkill.

Hopefully, Viibryd will lift this depression fast.

Whatever drags me out of this depression I'm living in. Too many things going on in my life I can't escape from.

It blocks certain dopamine receptors which may release dopamine. I hope you will get relief from Viibryd.

Sheila just curious if it's external factors than how does a pill make it go away? This has always been my question also. Can a pill fix the stuff that is external? Phillipa

No, a pill can't fix external things, but if you already have underlying depression & anxiety, throwing external things in makes it hard to get out of bed.

Believe me, if it were as simple as popping a pill to make everything better, that would be awesome.

I guess taking care of the depression & anxiety that has been in my life since I was a little girl, than it helps you to cope with the external stressors.

To me and please correct me if my thinking is flawed. I always myself feel that a pill suppresses the feelings. Masks them so it's easier to function? Does this make sense as trying to also apply this to me since don't like meds? Phillipa

No, I agree. It does help blunt the overwhelming feelings of sadness and grief that I'm dealing with, but not 100%, it just helps me to be able to function.

To be honest with you, I felt a lot better when I stopped taking all the meds (Trileptal, Geodon, Klonopin) and just took Buspar. I finally felt clear headed, something I haven't felt in years. The only issue is the eye twitching and morning anxiety.

I don't know if taking Viibryd is going to work. I'm on day 4 and I have terrible gas, bloating and acid and then afternoon sleepiness.

I hate the pill experimentation.

No, Viibryd is not a longer lasting Buspar. Viibryd is an SSRI with the added benefit of 5ht1a agonism, which helps with depression and anxiety. I've been on the Viibryd for a few years now...And,, no, it's not like Cymbalta.

Seems you are the only one on this med but as you said a long time ago works for OCD? How does it differ from luvox & Lexapro? Phillipa

Viibryd is a 5ht1a agonist.
