Im off Meds

Posted by Tepi on July 1, 2013, at 23:00:49

Hello guys
Ive been living without meds for the last 6 months... I tried with a new doctor and he gave me high lyrica doses together with Tivanyl and another SSRI . I hated the side effects I told the doctor the meds were not helping me with my social phobia anxiety and depression.
He told me to stick to the meds but suddently I got tired of them and I decided to leave them

Ive been on all kind of drugs for a lot of time , since I was 16 .. now Im 33.. nothing seems to help me to the point I can say , IM a sick person but with this med I can have a normal life

I really dont know what other options I could try , I dont trust meds ...
Are there other options?

i know whats its like to have no meds at all...all my medications, my gdanmed body created a resistance....its like nothing....right now im reading scriptures for healing on the web.

but the best way to handle it is learn to routine life, do sometihng that stimulates your intrest, keep songs going, anything to keep the mind active....there is ECT but...i don't know about your history...or anything else....

the way i do it is to force myself even if it makes me in the worst mood, and then i drown the negative stuff with vodka.....i use alcohol moderatly....but its not for just getting a high, its to make the horrible chaos go away....

next, write things down, what the meds did for you and how you feel off them, or just think it....and see the changes in behavior from on meds and off...and write down what the core behavior is on baseline, there is that annoying CBT therapy stuff, planning, i hate behavior therapy techiques because there annoying to me....i do what i want do...

maybe search spirituality, or new ways of thinking....breaks the old chains of bad stuff...

Options:

Have you tried drugs of last resort (Nardil, Parnate)

Have you tried rational combinations (an SSRI + nortriptyline + either a benzo or low dose atypical antipsychotic)

TMS is Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation. It's been used in the US for six or seven years. A new form of TMS called Deep TMS, which penetrates far more deeply into the brain than standard TMS, will be available in the US sometime in the coming months. Another non-med treatment you might look into is neurofeedback. Ten days ago I started taking a supplement called d-limonene that's been helping my anxiety and depression. It works by raising adenosine levels in the brain, which is a completely different mechanism of action than SSRIs, SNRIs, MAOIs, benzos.

I think there were a few things there, which from memory are.....

When you stop banging your head against a brick wall it feels great.

That he got older and his brain got older and could no longer create the anxiety and mental violence.

He stopped paying attention to himself, got bored or something.

It wasn't anything he did. Perhaps more something somehow he managed to stop doing. He has been practising Zen forever. Maybe that helped?

The bit that struck me was when he threw his drugs out thinking 'These things don't even begin to help my predicament'.

But concerning the lifting of the depression......

"But two years ago [1999], for no apparent reason, the veil of depression lifted. For the first time in his life, Cohen sighed, looked out on the world and felt at peace with it.

There was just a certain sweetness to daily life that began asserting itself. I remember sitting in the corner of my kitchen, which has a window overlooking the street. I saw the sunlight that shines on the chrome fenders of the cars, and thought, Gee, thats pretty.

I said to myself, Wow, this must be like everybody feels. Life became not easier but simpler. The backdrop of self-analysis I had lived with disappeared. Its like that joke: When youre hitting your head against a brick wall, it feels good when it stops.

It was a remarkably late epiphany. Cohen had spent the past 50 years ploughing his way through drugs, drink, countless women and several religions in an attempt to find release from this backdrop of self-doubt. But the cure was more simple he learned to ignore himself.

When you stop thinking about yourself all the time, a certain sense of repose overtakes you. It happened to me by imperceptible degrees and I could not really believe it; I could not really claim it for some time. I thought there must be something wrong. Its like taking a drink of cold water when you are thirsty. Every tastebud on your tongue, every molecule in your body says thank you.'"

I'm not suggesting anything really.

Hi Tepi,

>I told my doctor about KETAMINE and he told me no way....

Yep, I think that's the response you'd get here too. Funny that the same doctors are happy to pass a large electric shock through patient's heads! Hmm.
