I don't know if he meant all mental illness, if so the studies I've seen don't show that. It's like saying only one thing causes all cancer.
As far as treating it with antibiotics you have to keep in mind that some antibiotics are really nasty drugs and if you use them too long they become ineffective when you get, say pneumonia.

I'm not by any means an expert on this having read only a few studies. There are certainly scientists that believe virus' play a big role in MI.
But it might not explain why genetics plays a huge role in MI or why so many MI's start around the same age.
I'm in the "still have a lot to learn" camp.

Minocycline does have quite a few side effects some tolerable and some not so much. I couldn't handle the dizziness. Given for peri oral dermatitis. I was told to stop it. Aren't there different ways like even motrin to decress inflammation? Phillipa

If viruses caused mental illness, then ciprofloxacin ear drops would be of no use, even if the said virus was located in the outer ear, because ciprofloxacin kills bacteria, not viruses

I have read the entire article for which Phil posted the link to the abstract. Anti-inflammatory properties are just one mechanism by which it may be acting. The doctor who suggested it for me was thinking of its activity on the glutamate system, although it could be a combination of mechanisms that accounts for its potential effectiveness. Anyway, it's working pretty well for me, and it feels a whole lot cleaner than any AD I've tried. I was lucky in not getting the dizziness that Phillipa did, although it did take a while for me to titrate up to the dose I'm at now because it was just too stimulating at first.

Congrats Emme what dose are you currently at? Are you taking other meds with it or were you able to come off of them? Glad to hear it's working so well. Phillipa

Lamictal and Abilify. I've been able to decrease dosages of both, which I hadn't been able to do before.
