dumb psychiatrists

Posted by poser938 on April 5, 2013, at 19:40:34

Talked to. Psychiatrist as an inpatient the other day. I just wanted to get away for a few days. I had been there before andits pretty fun and I always meet new and interesting people. But no one like the psychiatrist, everyone said she seemed to look down on them when they talked to her. I felt the same way. And when I told her how Cyproheptadine helpef my mood so much in the past, she said she had nevet heard ofCyproheptadine. I thought this was a bit understandable considering its not a normal psych med. But I told how I believed its serotonin asntagonism helped so much so she typed it in on the internet and the site that came up onl explained it as asn antihistamine, so then she just looked at me like I was stupid.

I wish there were fewer psychiatrists in this world that didnt make their profession look like as joke.

I had the coolest psychiatrist when I was inpatient. Older lady that I just immediately connected with. Great sense of humor and actually reduced my meds instead of upping everything. My psychiatrist upped them to original dose when I got out.

Wow I jusr re-read what I wrote and my typing is horrible. I'm not that great ast typing on a tablet computer with no keyboard.

Anyway, a new pdoc was there the last day and everyone liked her more. I just get the feeling it is mostly the fault of psychiatrits that many think they are looney. You can go to 5 different psychiatrists, tell them all the same exact thing, but get 5 different diagnosises.

I think that this is so true. I've read similar statements from psychiatric patients on other Web forums over the years, and it's also been my experience that there's a great deal of variability in the approach that psychiatrists take to diagnosing patients. If there's one thing that I could say that is true of most psychiatrists, it's that they don't ask enough questions. They also do very little, at least from my experience, to try to rule out non-psychiatric medical factors that might be causing symptoms that appear to be psychiatric in nature. Some psychiatrists are better than others, though, and my critiques don't necessarily apply to every psychiatrist out there, but I think that the standard of care that psychiatrists offer their patients generally leaves a lot of room for improvement.
