I probably shouldn't have posted this, in hindsight. It's not fair because I think this person may have been troubled with other issues beyond bipolar.
I mean, I don't know if she had these kinds of problems before she was ever diagnosed.
Yes, this happened after, probably abruptly, stopping meds but she could have had a violent past before meds or while on meds.
Either way it's terrible and as far as I know rare, but it happened.
If I find out more info I'll probably just keep my mouth shut.
I'm pretty good at exercising bad judgement sometimes. More than sometimes. I just hope everyone is OK.

I'm pretty sure most people stopping meds don't cut people but in this case it happened. Some people on meds commit suicide. Some people commit suicide that should have been on meds. What to do, we have mental illness.
>
> Friends,
> I thank Phil for posting about that when people stop drugs, they can go into a compelled state to kill themselves or others,, even commit mass murder. You see, there is a recognized syndrome that happens when one stops taking a mind-alterd drug. And the druigs given by psychiatrists/doctor can actually have a worse withdrawal than many illegal drugs. And when in the withdrawal state, one could be in such horror that they think that they will never come out of it and kill themselves. The reason that this happens is prohibited for me to post here due to prohibitions posted to me by Mr Hsiung here.
> And I know of a way for all of you to be free from depression and addiction without killing yourself and/or others. Yet today, I read the posts of those looking for a way out, and those that died while looking for that way, looking for the depression to stop, looking for the addiction to stop, looking to have their burden taken away so they could have rest, turning their lonely hearts to drugs. Where have they gone, their dreams have ended, they thought the drugs would take them to a way out, but some found death. My friends, there is a way. And when I had an encounter with a Rider on a white horse, he said to me, "I am the way, I am the life, come into me all you that labor and are heavy laden and I will give you rest."

Hey Lou, is this the rider on the white horse?

I wouldn't say you exercised poor judgment in this instance. In fact, you pointed out that your knowledge of the details of the incident was limited. The potential dangers of unsupervised or unsanctioned (by a doctor) withdrawal from a psych med is an important topic for reflection.

I don't think it is productive to ridicule the messenger.

In this case, it is probably far more productive to not post at all in reply to the message.

Scott,
You wrote,[...In this case, it is probably far more productive to not post at all in reply to the message...].
I am unsure as to what you are wanting to mean here. If you could post answers tothe following, then I could have the opportunity to respond accordingly.
A. What are you wanting to mean by {productive}?
B. Why would it be {far more productive?}
C. What is the message that you see that is concerning a reply?
D. If tghe message could save lives or prevent a life-ruining condition or addiction, why would it be more productive to not post at all a reply to the message?
E. If taking the drugs could lead to death, or a mind-altered state to compel one to kill themselves and/or others, why would it be more productive to not reply at all to the message?

Do you know what was the period of time between drug discontinuation and the incident? Without knowing this, it would be difficult to guess as to whether she was experiencing a withdrawal phenomenon or a relapse of the illness. Unfortunately, coming off an antidepressant too quickly can precipitate a withdrawal rebound depression along with agitation and anxiety that are not always features of the original condition. It is probably the emergence of agitation and anxiety that caused the violent episode.

Friends,
It is written above by M_Flack concerning the aspect of stopping a mind-altering drug.
Here is a video that I would like for all to view if you are considering being a discussant in this thread or parallel threads.
This video is made by Dr. Moira Dolan MD and goes into how psychotropic drugs could cause violence. What she says is generally accepted and raises many questions that I think could save lives, prevent life-ruining condition and addictions.
