can't exercize on Abilify?

Posted by porkpiehat on December 31, 2012, at 12:53:53

I've been working out for YEARS and since I've started boosting my AD with Abilify (2-2.5mgs), I've lost my imperative and ability to exercise.

When I force myself in with a trainer, I am completely exhausted after 15-20 mins and I feel like my heart is going to burst out of my chest. Also, that adrenaline rush or whatever it is that makes you keep going and enjoy yourself never comes.

It even affects my posture...I'm constantly fighting a slouch and shoulder pain, whereas before I could connect to and feel those postural and stabilize muscles firing.

The other consideration, of course, is that it boosts my Celexa, which has always made me very hedonistic and compulsive. So I'm drinking and smoking a lot...but then I was at this point before and still going to the gym.

I've tried taking ritalin before the workout, but I'm afraid that's just hiking my heartheart instead of giving me energy.

I'm happier than I've been in a while, but I'm worried that I'm trading my physical health for mental well-being. Grrr!

Seriously if you are drinking and smoking more how does it help your mental status? Sounds like it's doing more harm than good. Phillipa

I had a similar experience adding 2.5mg of aripiprazole to a high dose of Effexor. I had to stop my workout less than half-way through because I was totally exhausted, but in a very weird and uncomfortable way. I only took it for two days, but I've had a range of symptoms during that time that, retrospectively, kind of look like mild-to-moderate serotonin syndrome. (Aripiprazole is a 5HT-1A partial agonist, so it can contribute to serotonin syndrome, although this is probably rare.)

As I said, I stopped taking it after two days, because it clearly had terrible side-effects. But if it works for you, maybe slightly lowering the citalopram dose might help? Just a thought.

I am currently taking 2 mgs Abilify; 10 mgs of Celexa; 200 mgs of lamictal; and .25 mgs of klonopin. Not seratonin syndrome IMO.

Going down to 5mgs of celexa is pretty ineffective, although I noticed an increase in muscle activity.

I read somewhere that Ambien, of all things, can cure this.
