Pdoc presents

Posted by ChicagoKat on November 27, 2012, at 16:29:31

It occurred to me that some of us look forward to our pdoc appointments almost like a kid at christmastime looks forward to opening presents, but at the same time we're a little nervous that we won't get what we're hoping for. Anyways, I do!

My appt went well today I think. We're gonna try Focalin rather than regular Ritalin...has anyone had experience with Focalin? And what did you think of it? My main problem with Ritalin is bad anxiety I get a couple of hours after I take it. Then I got other great presents like Gabapentin and Klonopin and an increase in my Elavil so I can finally sleep...I love my pdoc :)

kat!! that was my suggestion I knew focalin would be good for you!, i put that in the message, im so happy! anyways but still....we'll have to see how it works....its gonna have less side effects than Ritilin but it still does have side effects, when it wears off....there's mood swings in some people. But it will increase the dopamine in the synapse...and it will make things seem more intresting...not like amphetamine, but still....it should improve some symptoms your having....

this is good! im so happy for you! see where this goes after couple weeks and that should give time for it to see if its working...

:)

Hey rj, yep, I meant to thank you for the recommendation of Focalin; you were the one who made me think of asking my pdoc about it. :) I'm starting it tomorrow and can't wait to see if it's better for me anxiety-wise, and I'll be sure to let you know! Thanks, and you take care. :)

Yes, gabapentin + klonopin + elavil helps me sleep...as you can see, i have a serious issue with insomnia. my beloved ambien finally let me down a few months ago...i even tried taking 30mg one night and really got to know my ceiling well cos i stared at it all night. and decades ago i had hypersomnia with my depression. ah, those were the days, to be able to sleep whenever i wanted to. and, very sadly, my hypersomnia went away but my hyperphagia is still very much present. Sigh.

Hi. Yes, I use Focalin. I like it. It is less "speedy" feeling than Ritalin, and it helps with alertness.

Glad you had a good appointment and I hope you get some sleep now!

It scares me to death every time I go.

"Will the medicine I'm prescribed be screwed up so that I feel hopeless, wind up in the ER again or worse? Will I suffer unbearable pain again as a result of this appointment?"

This is what runs through my head.

awww Neuro, that sounds like an awful way to feel. But I can understand it. Now that I'm getting a bit older I worry more about the potentially harmful effect my meds could have.

Have you told your pdoc you feel this way? Maybe then he/she would definitely be careful with any changes in your meds. And perhaps it would help to actually see your pdoc more often so that if you do have any negative reactions a change can be made more quickly and efficiently. Just a thought, but I wish you luck with every appt you have.

Yay! I'm happy you have something to look forward to, lol! Glad you're feeling better (must be all the new goodies).

I look forward to seeing my pdoc too. It makes me feel like I'm kinda egocentric, though ;/.

I saw my pdoc this morning; he gave me the new DNA test that (supposedly) detects which meds are best suited for you based on your liver enzymes. I'm definitely interested to see what happens--I'll post my results when I know.

Hope the new med goes well....

Thanks so much bryn. And it sounds like maybe you are feeling better too, I hope that is true.

I'd really like to get that DNA test. I keep meaning to ask pdoc about it when I see him, but I always have so much to talk to him about that I forget. Definitely let us know how your test turns out. Take care my friend. :)
