Depression, sleepiness and sugar cravings

Posted by NKP on November 17, 2012, at 12:11:09

I am not on medication at the moment.

I have the following symptoms:

* feelings of depression (these may be situational)
* overwhelming sleepiness by day
* sugar cravings (it feels like my brain only works properly after having eaten something very sweet)
* terrible hypnopompic hallucinations and delusions at night (I wake up thinking my apartment is being broken into)

My theory is that I have a problem with my serotonin function.

In the past Zoloft helped me somewhat. I am not currently on medication.

The psychiatrist who last treated me mentioned she thought Prozac may work better than Zoloft for my symptoms but we stuck to the Zoloft because it worked.

I thought about trying 5HTP but was scared off by the claims of possible heart valve damage it may cause.

What do you think is wrong with me and what medication do you think may help?

NPK I think you answered yourself when you said zoloft worked in the past. Try this first. Phillipa
