Help with meds, OCD, Depression, getting off ssri

Posted by JohhnyYen on October 17, 2012, at 0:42:22

I need help with my stack. I am trying to stop taking Lexpro but it's been hell. I went off it for a week but had to start again at 2.5mg because I was just so out of it. I also just started Baclofen.

Baclofen 10mg 3x
Lexapro 2.5
Lithium Oroate 5mg (just started)
Memantine 10mg (plan to increase to 20mg)
Alpha GPC 300mg
Uridine 300mg
Fish Oil 2.2g
Ashwagandha
Bacopa

My OCD has gotten worse but I actually feel a bit better over all despite all the weirdness, fell anhedonic/depressed, but not more than when I was on SSRI. I do feel like I am experiencing more of life. Any suggestions of dosages? Help getting off the SSRI? I may try tianeptine soon.

Welcome to babble. I'm doing the same thing myself. I find I seem to always end up back where I started so I don't think I will be much help. Phillipa

when i had OCD it was part of my depression , i used to do some very weird things, like in the supermarket i would turn the cans if the labels were off centre ect ect . I nailed it with just 20mg of PROZAC nothing else , it stopped depression an OCD went with it. I believe they use 60 mg now.

In the long run, Tianeptine may make your OCD worse, because of the effect it has on dopamine in the nucleus accumbens.

Why not switch over to Clomipramine? It is one of the best antidepressants indicated for depression and OCD.

2.5 mg of Lexapro is sub therapeutic.

In the 2 days I have taken Tianeptine I have liked it. I could see how the dopamine release could increase compulsive behavior. At this point I am okay with more OCD if there is less depression and anhedonia.

I am on the 2.5mg as it is the lowest dose I had to go back on the alleviate the withdrawal symptoms.

OCD has gotten alot worse at this low dose of SSRI. I am somehow OK with that. I feel like I have been working through it. I can't explain it, I would just rather be aware of it, it's like it was still there with the SSRI I just wasn't as aware of it.

I think I may have tried clomipramine as a child.

This is a ridiculous see-saw. Less OCD, More depression. Less depression, more OCD. And with OCD comes anxiety, if they aren't one in the same.

There's no reason you couldn't raise the Lexapro again, unless you're having untoward side effects. I'm thinking the SSRI would combat the OCD and the Tianeptine would help with the depression.

I was under the impression that taking both at once would diminish the effect of either. They have somewhat opposing mechanism of action, SSRI and SSRE.

A selective serotonin reuptake enhancer (SSRE) is a type of drug which enhances the plasmalemmal reuptake of the neurotransmitter serotonin, leading to a decrease in its synaptic concentrations and therefore a decrease in serotonergic neurotransmission. While Tianeptine enhances serotogenic action at the cell membrane, an SSRI would increase the amounts of serotonin available at the synapse. Both drugs would be increasing serotonin at different sites of the cell body.

I took tianeptine (Stablon) for 5 years at doses up to 12.5mg six times daily but usually took 4 tablets.

It worked well for my anxiety as an adjunct to benzodiazepines but I wasn't able to truly evaluate how it affected me until I tapered off (over 6 weeks).

I believe it gave me obsessions about gambling. I have never gambled in my life but I couldn't get the thoughts out of my head. It also made me think more about sex despite my libido being low. Is that part of OCD? I'm not sure.

That disappeared shortly after stopping tianeptine. I felt it was habit-forming but the expense was what really gave me the motivation to stop. That, and it didn't work well for my depression over the long term.

I have found that in exceeding the recommended dosage of 12.5mg several times over with 37.5 or even 40mg in one dose this makes me feel great. Like actually "OK". Unfortunately this only lasts for 2-3 hours tops. I have no negative side effects or withdrawal. Unfortunately this is just not financially viable for me to dose this many times a day. I can see how this could be habit forming. I wish I could feel okay for longer periods of time, I'm fine with taking a pill to feel better, I just don't know if I've found the pill for me yet. I will most definitely finishing my last two blister pack, albeit faster than I initially intended.

I never noticed thinning hair or hair loss but I had other side effects such as swelling in my lower right leg (edema). Edema is somewhat common among dopamine agonists so it makes me wonder how dopaminergic tianeptine really is. It went away when I discontinued it.

Other side effects I noticed were orthostatic hypotension which occurred after exercise. My blood pressure would drop after I was done exercising. I'd feel sweaty and then a feeling that I would faint.

After quitting Stablon it stopped. I can walk for a few miles and stop and nothing bad happens anymore.
