Allergic to Lexapro Is it Possible?

Posted by phillipa on October 8, 2012, at 12:46:08

I'd stopped the tiny dose of 2.5mg of lexapro and added it back last night as experiment and now the eczema is back on my back? Is it possible to be allergic to it? Seems crazy? Phillipa

Hi Phillipa,
Anyone can potentially be allergic to anything. Allergies to Lexapro are very rare, but there is always a possibility. If your eczema came back on a re-challenge, I'd say you may well be allergic to Lexapro, or it may just be a weird adverse reaction. At any rate, I'd avoid Lexapro if you can. Do you really need it? Or is there something else you can take?
Kat

You might be allergic to the colourants or fillers or preservatives in the pill etc, even if not allergic to lexapro.

Given that the eczema came back when you re-challanged, I think you're right to stop taking it phillipa.

One more night and see as felt somewhat better today. And it's so cold & gloomy here. I have to weight the odds of a spot of eczema over maybe feeling better. So double rechallange once more. Phillipa
