viibryd anyone?

Posted by johnLA on August 26, 2012, at 22:57:25

hi all-

i took a look at past threads on viibryd and it's doesn't sound like that great of a med.

i am wondering if maybe some new people here are on it w/any success. this is the next drug my pdoc wants me start. very slowly and gently. he says he has had very good success with it. he knows i am extremely sensitive to side effects.

i have also looked at other sites and the reviews are pretty unimpressive. i trust my doc, but am not very excited by what i am reading about viibryd.

as i have mentioned many times my depression is pretty severe; anhedonia, in bed almost 24/7, rarely leave the house, haven't worked in 2 years and lots of ruminating thoughts that just won't stop.

i am currently only on 1.5mg of klonopin and trying to reduce that.

believe it or not i am not on anything else right now. first time since my episode started over 2 years ago that i am not on an antidepressant. i actually feel more 'alive' in some ways; clearer head, no dry mouth for the first time in over 2 years and i am back to my regular weight and fewer nightmares/vivid dreams. still, suicide is on my mind and i cannot continue to lay in bed the rest of my days.

stuff i have tried; zoloft, lexapro, cymbalta, celexa, remeron, medical marijuana, wellbutrin, and ect. all no help except remeron. mostly because i slept great on it. i think it also helped a bit w/anxiety.

i am going to try another out-patient program (again) near me and hoping to increase my talk therapy to few times a week. it seems if i could just get moving i have much better days. those days are rare because i have no place to be. deep down i'd really like to try this approach more to be honest. like i mentioned earlier, in some ways i am better off antidepressants. well, at least the ones i tried so far, which did not do too much and had some bothersome side-effects.

thanks for any replies in advance.

john

John I'm becoming intrigued with the minocycline which I have for dermatitis. New prescription to antibiotic lotions not working. So maybe? I have heard many say better without ad's. I was that's for sure when just on xanax. Maybe I still have some lymes left and the mino would help with this. I did test positive still with 6 bands positive. Going to google some more on this now. The viibrd heard the same. Phillipa

In any given case, it either works, or it doesnt - you might be one of those where it works.

Try it, and give it a fair trial, you gave everything to gain, and nothing to lose.

It must do something positive. I responded to it for about a week. That's saying something. I don't recall having any significant side effects. It did not produce any sexual impairments. Phiddipus really likes how he is responding to it. I think his challenges include depression and OCD.

Hi John,

Glad to hear you're trying something new.

The last "new" med I tried was lithium; I was apprehensive, but decided NOT to look at reviews and side effects online. As it turned out, I was pleasantly surprised and it turned out to be a great addition to my regimen.

So, perhaps approaching it without any preconceived ideas or judgements would be helpful (kind of like seeing a movie without seeing the trailer, if that makes sense).

Good luck! And stay positive.

Hello JohnLA,

I was just going to check how are you doing?
You've mention the severe depression, and I can relate to that.

Hi John,

My pdoc has been talking to me about viibryd too. I told him I was just too scared to try another med. My condition is different from yours, but I feel I could have written parts of your post. I like much of being off of an ssri, but am not sure how long I can live my life or maybe what kind of life I can live without trying it. Besides chronic PTSD I have GAD as my present pdoc has diagnosed me and it seems to fit because I worry every decision into the ground. Right now I am on 1.5 mg of Xanax and 200mg of topamax to control my anxiety (barely). I don't know what to say except I wish you luck and courage, too, in your decision making process. I'm not sure what I will do myself.

Please write me? I do wonder if Viibrd is a good ad? Might be something to consider myself. Had to up xanax a bit with all the stuff that went on. Takes time to recover from scares. P

Has your doctor thought to prescribe prazosin for your PTSD symptom cluster? It really works. Topamax is also being studied for PTSD.

He hasn't mentioned it. I read your thread but right now cannot recall how it specifically helped you. With depression or unrecognized anxiety beneath it?

Thank you for the input, Scott. I'll bring it up when I see him. Right now he seems to want me on viibryd or something like that.

Viibryd is an interesting drug that has thus far been used rather sparsely. I don't think its clinical "personality" has been well established. I really don't know what to expect from it with you. With me, it produced a transient antidepressant effect that was free from SSRI-type apathy and amotivation. It was not mind-numbing. It did not affect sexual function adversely. My only concern for you is that you have in place a drug that would act to restrict a manic reaction. As far as prazosin is concerned, you should be able to take it with any psychotropic. Just be aware that there are a few startup side effects that usually disappear within a week or two. For me, only occasional dizziness was a lingering problem. This is not surprising given that it was being combined with two other drugs that tend to produce orthostatic hypotension.

I hope you continue to keep us updated on your progress.
