Has anyone tried prazosin for phobic anxiety?

Posted by tlt on July 31, 2012, at 5:58:17

I have a condition that has low NET proteins. So Whenever I get a norepinephrine rush, my body can't clear the NE and I got horrible panic attacks.

I have bad social anxiety disorder as well.

Now that I know I have low NET levels, I wanted to try prazosin to block my norepinephrine and see if that helps with my anxiety.

I was wondering if anyone has taken prazosin for an anxiety disorder other than PTSD. I see the studies say it works well for PTSD but I was wondering if anyone with phobic anxiety or panic attacks have taken prazosin.

Thank you.

Welcome to babble also. I did a google search and couldn't find anything about Net other than it has something to do with proteins. What is the condition you have? Phillipa

NET is norepinephrine transporter, it uptakes norepinephrine from the adrenergic nerves - terminating the signal.

Since I have low levels of it, my nerves are swimming in norepinephrine.

The condition is known as postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome. Basically my HR elevates just by standing up (when you stand up, your body naturally puts out a little more catecholamines) However this slight addition is enough to cause me to have POTS.

They actually found if you give health volunteers reboxetine (which is a NET inhibitor) they develop POTS as well. I believe they have to give a fairly high dose though.

Anyway my doctor suggested carvedilol.

I have taken Prazosin for OCD and panic attacks. I found it very effective, especially at higher doses (10 mg).

I also found taking it with a benzo made it evven more effective.

10 mg seems like a really high dosage. Glad to hear it was very effective, but do you think it's the benzo or the prazosin that's helping you more?

They both help equally.
