is feeling mildly stimulated on a benzo a sign of too much or too little?

I think they're different for each person, but I've found a Xanax made me feel high as a kite (which increased my anxiety), Klonopin was okay but made me way too tired, Valium made me sleepy but didn't help much with panic (still had to do breathing exercises), and Ativan eased the panic attack with no side effects. My doc swore they were all the same though (lol), and I know people who say Xanax is the only one that 'works'. Xanax is def. the one that makes me more anxious; I just stay away from it.

It's true we are all different. I must say years ago they did all seem to just relieve anxiety no hights. Except klonopin which causes depression. Phillipa

valium caused depression
xanax increased heart rate, anxiety when it wore off
ativan increased anxiety when it wore off, felt lethargic after taking
klonopin the one!no side effects, keeps gad, panic, and depression at bay,for me.

Either it is rebound anxiety when the benzo is wearing off or you are having a paradoxical reaction? I'd say pay attention to when it comes up to rule out the rebound anxiety.

one of the reasons for this that people have anxiety and feel frozen, when they take benzos it relieves their state of frozenness, and some people feel that it lets them function normal. I used to be prescibed both xanax and temezpam and took them together at night, prescibed for medical reasons, and it would make me feel I wanted to get up and do stuff....kinda like that euphoric drunk feeling you get from alcohol that starts when you start drinking...its vary stimulating because it lessnes inhibition tempoarly increases activity.

Hmm. You might be right. I've just noticed that on e.g. Valium, a smaller dose (2.5-5mg) would sometimes feel stimulating, whereas 10mg didn't.

I'm using Klonopin (1mg at night). The anxiety felt like it hit close to when I took last night's dose (0.75mg), but maybe I was withdrawing from the previous night's 1mg and 0.75mg wasn't enough to cover me. I ended up taking 1mg and felt okay.

You should just stop taking benzos.

if you are just starting out on them, they can actually can be stimulating (similar to the way painkillers are--it's the "high"). taken over long periods of time, benzos will definitely increase/worsen anxiety. rebound anxiety is especially bad w long term use.

Speaking from experience here--i took Xanax, klonopin & Valium in excess amounts daily for years. now that I don't take them regularly, my anxiety is generally in check.

hope that helps...
