Interesting read on suicide

Posted by Phil on May 27, 2012, at 11:28:28

I hope I can post this here. When I have suicidal ideation, I usually surf the net for any info that's suicide related. Somehow it makes me relax. I think it might be compared to "when my baby left me all I do is listen to the blues."
But this is really interesting, hope someone likes it.

Phil I'm scared to read it. How do you feel are we alone here? Phillipa

It's interesting and not scary at all. Do you mean are we alone in the universe sort of way? I have little belief in god, less in reincarnation. I think when we die, that's it.
Thinking that there's a god that made you in his own image, loves you and watches over you, answers your prayers, to me, is comical.
What kind of god sets up a system where the Holocaust can happen or crimes against children?
If there is a god, I don't care for him.

probably one of the most thought out descriptions I've read.
Well, I remember the sort of attending to concrete, mundane tasks. I felt like part of me shut off. It had to. I was going through the motions. I only hurt myself, wasn't trying to kill myself, but that could all be semantics if you're stupid enough in the moment.
It comes to be a sort of rational-irrational response.
I don't believe in god and an afterlife. The big preventive thing for me is the people I'd leave behind.

There was a guy that worked for me in the late 70s. Real nice guy but I know he had his demons. He borrowed a .357 magnum from a coworker saying that somebody had been following him.
A few nights later he drove out a country road and killed himself. I'll never forget him but I will also never forget his father when he came to the store to pick my friends check. He should have been in the hospital. His demeanor his face, he had nothing left. I didn't have the words. It was very sad, the whole deal.

Why anxiety? Now that is really scarey. Phillipa

Thanks for this post, I wish I had it a few weeks ago to send to some people...I've been trying to compile links to make people understand and they just haven't.

The book Night Falls Fast is good to explain it.

After countless meds and years of therapy I had become hopeless a few times and attempted suicide. Twice I overdosed but the last time I had locked myself in my room. When I was found I needed 8 pints of blood and spent awhile in intensive care after which I spent time in a psych ward. Today I am so grateful that I hadn't succeeded because life is worth living and I have finally found what works for me. A good therapist and the right combination of meds. Just never give up you will eventually find what works. It took me 30 years of suffering and many psychiatrists and medications. Just don't give up you will find what works for you.

Thanks xean. I've been on meds for 30 years too and I'm not suicidal but I have suicidal ideation from time to time. I'm glad you are here with us.
